Description

Major Responsibilities:
  • Produces quality digital images to demonstrate the peripheral, viscera, and neurovascular system and/or non-vascular imaging performed in the Interventional Radiology Laboratory.
    •     1)Selects, implements, and modifies exam technical protocols to produce diagnostic digital images, utilizing knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and radiographic technology
    •     2)Demonstrates technical skill as a scrub technologist
    •     3)Performs technical function pertaining to, and stays abreast of, equipment, tray preparation, contrast media and ADW and PACS networking system.
    •     4)Demonstrates skills in the operation of equipment, i.e. performs digital subtraction angiography, operates bolus chase for peripheral vascular studies, set up/programs rotational 3D angiograms, set up/operates pressure monitor/recorder, operates computer such as ADW/PACS.
  • Assists credentialed radiologists in imaging and revascularization procedures
    •     1)Works with credentialed interventional vascular/radiologists in digital angiography and revascularization procedures; uses skill in proper use of procedural supplies to maintain successful revascularization
    •     2)Provides technical support to credentialed interventional angiographers in implementation of vanguard technologies, i.e. atherectomy, laser, stent placements, new devices
    •     3)Understands atherosclerotic disease process, and conveys understanding to other care givers as required; uses knowledge to enhance technical performance
    •     4)Selects, implements, and modifies exam technical protocolss to produce quality diagnostic digital images, utilizing knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and radiographic technology.
    •     5)Understands bleeding factors and the risks/complications which may arise when a patient is treated with/undergo angioplasty, atherectomy, laser or thrombolytic agents, and conveys understanding to other care givers as required; uses knowledge to enhance technical performance
    •     6)Provides proper pre and post procedure care in and around lab; compresses catheter introduction sites manually, assists physicians in closure device deployment and assures full hemostasis is achieved and that bleeding is fully stopped before patient is dispatched to room.
  • Performs technical function pertaining to, and stays abreast of, equipment, tray preparation and contrast media
    •     1)Prepares equipment, tray preparation, and contrast media for ordered exams
    •     2)Selects and opens supplies in a fashion to ensure prompt patient care and cost containment
    •     3)Assists in inventory management of the area, using knowledge of on-site inventory and availability lags of necessary supply items
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of laboratory records to assure the excellence of care afforded
    •     2)Performs QV&V process; processes, and completes requisitions, to quiantify, verify and validate ensuring appropriate patient care and accuracy of patient billing
    •     3)Records accurately patient data for demographic marketing, annotates digital images to protect the integrity and wholeness of the patient record
    •     1)Performs Universal Time-Out: verifies appropriateness and correctness of patient exam, completeness of consent forms, presence of lab results and H&P's to provide proper quality management
  • Cooperates as a team player with nursing unit staff, other allied health care professionals and physicians, to promote the efficiency and quality of care provided by the Interventional Radiology Service **"Maintains appropriate competencies as defined by the ACR, Established Regulatory Standards, IEMA, IRSRT and ASRT to include and not to exclude any other formal regulatory recommended requirements and/or newly revised standards.
    •     1)Functions in patient emergencies in efficient and competent manner, assists the Code Team as needed in stabilizing the patient, using knowledge of where supplies are kept in the Interventional Radiology Laboratory to assure that supply needs are met in emergencies
    •     2)Assists and coordinatesin scheduling patients with interface of nursing unit personnel and interventional radiologists.
    •     3)Instructs patients, alleviates fears regarding exams, working with the team to provide an optimal patient experience, as well as recognizes the needs and behaviors of various age groups
    •     4)Assists in performance of daily quality control testing of equipment, verifies function at time of testing, reports problems to Coordinator/Supervisor.
    •     5)Selects and opens supplies in a fashion to ensure prompt patient care and cost containment
    •     6)Prepares equipment, sterile angiographic trays, patient records, and contrast media for ordered exams
    •     7)Provides personal flexibility to the needs of the patient, providing as requested procedure support, and timely on-call response


Education/Experience Required:
  • - Graduate of AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology - ARRT Registration - 1-3 years Radiology experience in Hospital/Trauma environment - 1 +yrs of experience specific to SPECIAL PROCEDURES (non-specific to Cath. Lab.) - Knowledge of sterile techniques - Must be able to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e. understand child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging; prior experience with various age groups is preferred


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • - Proficient in the operation of basic angiographic equipment - Basic computer skills preferred - Computer literate - Knowledge of Special Procedure Services
  • - ARRT Registry - first year of employment - CPR Certification within six months of employment - IEMA License


Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • - Able to respond to request to work on short notice - Flexible in starting times to meet demand - As required, must be able to transport, move, and lift patients - Must be able to take call (Every third week cycle) - Must be able to work under stressful conditions - Willing to work overtime as requested
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.


Addendum: • NIH Stroke Scale annual education • Total of 8 hours of stroke education/year (inclusive of the NIH education) Additional Job Accountability: Practicing using the stroke core measures as the guide to appropriate stroke care. NOTE: Comply with mandatory DiMedici Computer Program for Fire Safety, MRI Safety, and Universal Precautions; Maintain CPR Certification. Must maintain professional decorum, and adhere to dress code as required by department; no deviations allowed. Maintains appropriate competencies as defined by the ACR, Accrediting Organization, IEMA, IRSRT and ASRT to include and not to exclude any other formal regulatory recommended requirements and/or newly revised standards.
