Summary

We are seeking an experienced Cardiac Stepdown RN / Telemetry Nurse for a 13-week travel nursing opportunity in Springfield, Illinois. Ideal candidates have strong cardiac monitoring skills, telemetry/PCU/stepdown experience, and current Illinois RN licensure. This role is perfect for travel nurses and RNs seeking short-term assignments at a Level I Trauma, Magnet facility.

Job Requirements (Qualifications)

  • Minimum 2 years recent Cardiac Stepdown, MS/Tele, Telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC, or Stepdown experience (preferred for travel nursing)
  • Active Illinois RN license (required at submission) — Illinois nursing license
  • ACLS and BLS certifications (AHA or Red Cross only)
  • NIHSS certification preferred
  • Experience with Cerner electronic charting system preferred
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Experience in Level I Trauma and teaching hospital settings preferred
  • Ability to float to like units as needed (PCU, IMC, Telemetry)
  • Must be able to interpret and manage dysrhythmias, cardiac monitoring, and emergency response
  • Experience with post-cardiac procedures, hemodialysis management, IV therapy, wound care, and respiratory interventions

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with cardiac and medical needs in a stepdown/telemetry setting
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and telemetry; identify and manage dysrhythmias
  • Respond to emergencies and participate in rapid response/team codes as needed
  • Care for patients post-cardiac angiogram, MI, cardiac cath, cardiac surgery, and sheath removal
  • Manage feeding tubes, pre/post hemodialysis care, renal failure needs, and surgical drains
  • Perform IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line management
  • Administer and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips per protocols
  • Manage respiratory interventions including chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, and oxygen therapy
  • Implement isolation precautions and provide wound care, including wound vac management
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (IV team, PT, RT, pharmacy, social services, case management)
  • Float to similar units within the facility as required
