Travel Dietitian Job Details

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field
- Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) – RD or RDN required
- Current state licensure/certification as required for Iowa (or ability to obtain)
- Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in a facility setting (hospital or acute care preferred)
- Knowledge of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), enteral and parenteral nutrition
Key Responsibilities (Hospital / Clinical Dietitian)
- Conduct nutrition assessments and re-assessments; set nutrition goals and individualized interventions
- Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and monitor patient progress across acute care populations
- Develop and monitor enteral and parenteral nutrition support in collaboration with pharmacy and medical staff
- Collaborate with Speech Therapy and interdisciplinary teams on diet progression and transitional feeding
- Clarify admission and nutrition support orders to ensure consistency with hospital guidelines
- Consider cultural, religious, and ethnic food practices when creating nutrition care plans
- Identify and evaluate potential food–drug and herb/supplement interactions
- Provide patient and family nutrition education and counseling; develop patient and staff educational programs
- Participate in departmental and facility performance improvement and quality assurance programs
- Serve as a resource to food service staff; advise on special preparation techniques for modified diets
- Participate in menu planning and approve therapeutic menus and appropriate substitutions
- Perform meal rounds and tray audits to ensure compliance with prescribed diets and quality standards
- Maintain professional registration and pursue continuing education to stay current in clinical dietetics
- Promote patient and employee safety by following facility policies and safety procedures
