PCU Registered Nurse (RN) – Night Shift | 13-week travel assignment in Roanoke, VA 24014. Neuro stepdown / progressive care role requiring EPIC, ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS. Estimated weekly pay $1,800–$1,890.

Position Summary

Join a dynamic acute care teaching hospital in Roanoke, Virginia as a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (Travel Nurse, Night Shift). Provide expert care to adult patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions in a Neuro Progressive Care/Stepdown setting. This travel nurse assignment is ideal for experienced telemetry/stepdown RNs with neurology experience who are comfortable with EPIC charting and cardiac monitoring.

  • Shift: Night shift, 3x12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15)
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,800 – $1,890 (travel nurse pay range)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:4–5 (confirm comfort with 1:5 ratio)
  • Charting / EMR: EPIC experience required
  • Schedule Notes: May require every other weekend or ~6 weekend shifts per 6-week block; at least one holiday shift required during the 13-week contract

Required Qualifications (PCU / Stepdown RN)

  • Active RN license: Virginia RN or Compact State license accepted
  • Minimum 1 year of recent PCU, Stepdown, telemetry, or acute care experience (neuro preferred)
  • Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
  • EPIC electronic medical record experience required
  • Clinical skills: cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, Rapid Response/Code team participation
  • IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care
  • Medication administration and experience with cardiac drips (no titration required)
  • Respiratory support: nasal cannula, oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions and infection control
  • COVID-19 and influenza vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions considered)

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult patients with neurological and neurosurgical diagnoses, including stroke management, post-op neurosurgical recovery, and epilepsy monitoring
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms; respond to emergencies and participate on Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Administer medications and manage IV therapies, including blood products and cardiac drips (no titration)
  • Provide respiratory support and manage non-invasive airway devices
  • Implement and maintain isolation precautions and infection control practices
  • Float to other units within your clinical skillset as needed (acute care flexibility)
  • Accurate and timely documentation of patient care in EPIC electronic medical records
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (physicians, therapists, case management) to ensure comprehensive patient care
