Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,240 – $1,330
- Location: Homewood, AL 35209 (Birmingham metro)
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks (May 25, 2026 – August 24, 2026)
- Shift: 10-hour days (06:00 – 16:30)
- Hours per Week: 40
- Unit: Main OR – Neuro/Spine specialty (Neurosurgery / Spine Surgery)
- On-call: Weekend hours and call rotation managed by Coordinator
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Surgical Technologist experience; Neuro/Spine OR experience preferred
- Active Surgical Tech certification (Certified Surgical Technologist preferred)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) current and required
- Experience with Cerner EMR preferred (documentation in Cerner)
- Familiarity with neurosurgery instruments, spine instrumentation, and sterile technique
- Preferred skills: vascular, Da Vinci/robotic-assisted procedures, orthopedic and maxillofacial experience
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced operating room environment and maintain 1:1 patient safety standards
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain the operating room for Neuro/Spine procedures, ensuring sterile field and instrument readiness
- Assist surgeons and the perioperative team during neurosurgery and spine cases, including instrument passing and suctioning
- Set up specialty equipment (microsurgical instruments, navigation systems, spine instrumentation, and robotic tools when applicable)
- Monitor patient safety, support positioning and 1:1 intraoperative needs, and adhere to infection control protocols
- Document procedures accurately in Cerner EMR and follow hospital documentation standards
- Participate in on-call rotation and weekend coverage as scheduled by the Coordinator
- Comply with hospital dress code (ceil blue or royal blue scrubs) and departmental policies
