  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,020 - $2,130 (competitive travel nurse pay)
  • Location: Durham, North Carolina (Zip: 27710) — Durham / Research Triangle Park area
  • Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (May 18, 2026 – August 17, 2026)
  • Shift: Night shift, 3x12-hour (19:00 – 07:30)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Unit: Pediatric Cardiac Stepdown (Unit 3A), 17 beds
  • Patient Ratio: 1:3
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Orientation: Bi-weekly, 36 hours
  • Job Type: Travel Nurse / Registered Nurse (RN) – Pediatric Cardiac, Stepdown, Telemetry

Qualifications & Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) with minimum 1 year recent RN experience in stepdown, cardiac, ICU, or pediatric cardiac unit (pediatric cardiac RN experience preferred)
  • Active North Carolina RN license or Compact RN license in hand
  • BLS and PALS certifications required
  • Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
  • One supervisory reference from the past year
  • First-time travel nurses welcome; local candidates accepted within 75 miles

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care for pediatric patients with congenital heart disease, cardiac transplant needs, and complex care requirements, including trach/ventilator-dependent patients
  • Administer blood and blood products, anti-seizure medications, antiarrhythmics, and perform aquapheresis as indicated
  • Manage central lines, PICC lines, chest tubes, gastric/NG tubes, and perform tracheostomy care
  • Perform hemodynamic monitoring, telemetry interpretation, and dysrhythmia recognition (cardiac monitoring skills)
  • Implement infection control, isolation precautions, and pediatric-specific safety protocols
  • Utilize Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS) and participate in Rapid Response Team interventions
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, IV team, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social services to coordinate patient-centered care
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient care accurately and efficiently in the electronic health record (EHR)
