Opportunity:
RN - Med Surg
Job Details:
• Mix of day and night shifts, 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM or 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM
• Weekend shifts required as needed
• Holiday shifts required as needed
• Subject to low census cancellations; up to 3 shifts may be cancelled per 13-week assignment
• No self-scheduling available for travel RNs; blocked scheduling may be accommodated at times
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 on both days and nights; must be able to take a 1:6 ratio
• High patient turnover on day shift; expect admits when discharges occur
• Care for a variety of adult patients including possibly older teens with diagnoses such as pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, respiratory illness, orthopedic surgical patients (hips, knees, shoulders), general surgery (appendix, gallbladder, bowel), spinal surgery, and urology
• Required to titrate drips including Heparin; set rate drips include Bumex and Lasix
• Cardiac tech available 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own telemetry strips
• Nursing supervisor available 24/7; charge nurses do not take patients
• Nurse aides available at a 1:8-1:10 ratio, responsible for accuchecks and vital signs
• Respiratory therapy support available 24/7; equipment includes trachs, CPAP for OSA, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen
• May float to IMCU for med-surg assignments
• Unit orientation is 1.5 shifts
• Must have 1 year of med-surg experience and experience with the shift applied for (days vs. nights)
• Must have experience with EPIC documentation
• Bedside shift report required
• Teamwork expectations include answering call lights, working well with CNAs, and proactive patient rounding
• Scrub color required: Navy Blue
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA or ARC), CPI
• 38-bed unit; acute care setting at a Level 3 Trauma facility
• BSN not required

This acute care facility is a Level 3 Trauma Center offering a wide range of inpatient medical and surgical services. The med-surg unit consists of 38 beds and is the largest nursing specialty within the organization, supporting a diverse patient population with varying diagnoses. The facility maintains 24/7 nursing supervision and cardiac monitoring support, ensuring a structured and well-resourced environment for both staff and patients.
