Opportunity:
RN - Critical Care/ICU
Job Details:
• Night shift position with every other weekend requirement
• 12-hour shifts scheduled 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Schedules made 4 weeks in advance with some self-scheduling subject to manager review and balancing
• 4 weekend shifts per pay period required (weekend nights include Friday/Saturday, weekend days include Saturday/Sunday)
• Holiday requirement includes 1 winter holiday and an eve of another holiday
• First to float rotation - may float to PCU, MST, or EC ICU/PCU as needed
• Low census call may occur approximately 1 time per 6 weeks; no scheduled call requirement
• Nurse to patient ratios: 1:1-2 in ICU based on acuity/staffing; PCU 1:3-4
• Must titrate critical care drips including pressors (levophed), paralytics, sedation (propofol), anti-arrhythmics, dopamine, heparin, and argatroban
• Must have strong EKG reading skills and ability to interpret ABGs
• Must be able to troubleshoot and assist with weaning ventilators
• Preferred experience with IABP and Prismaflex CRRT
• Common diagnoses and patient types include: COVID with manual proning, low level neuro, EVD, DKA, sepsis, ARF, CRRT, rhabdomyolysis, post MI, detox, chest tubes, art lines, SWAN, Impella, TAVR, cardiac surgical, VAD devices, STEMI, PCI, CEA, and IABP
• Travelers with open heart surgery experience may take fresh open heart patients upon skills verification
• Must be familiar with Glidescopes used during intubation
• Must be comfortable with BiPap, CPAP, HFNC, and Vapotherm equipment
• RNs are required to read their own telemetry strips using Nihon Kohden monitors
• Monitors located in patient rooms and at nurses station
• Charting system: Cerner
• Scrub color: Any professional color scrubs (no camouflage); transitioning to Navy scrubs in October
• Orientation: 8 hours of general hospital orientation, followed by one 12-hour precepted shift and one 12-hour buddy shift; additional orientation provided for specialized skills such as open heart surgery or CRRT
• Must take and pass dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to signing contract
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA)

This acute care facility operates a comprehensive Critical Care service line encompassing a CVICU, COVID unit, Medical Surgical ICU, and Progressive Care Unit. The facility maintains 24/7 intensivist coverage on the West campus with NP supplementation and a 24/7 house supervisor. The organization supports a wide range of complex critical care needs including cardiac surgical services, CRRT, and advanced respiratory therapy equipment, providing a dynamic and high-acuity environment for experienced critical care nurses.
