Opportunity:

RN - MedSurg Float Pool

Job Details:

• 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend required
• Float pool assignment covering General Medicine, Cardiology, all Med-Surg units including ED boarding, Post-Surgical, and Ortho/Neuro units
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:4 on day shift; ratios may flex up or down depending on staffing availability
• CNA support available with ratios of 1:5 to 1:8
• Charge nurses available on all units
• Telemetry monitored centrally by tele techs; RNs are not required to read their own strips but skill is encouraged
• Common patient diagnoses include general medicine, ortho/neuro, post-surgical, heart center, inpatient rehab, behavioral health (modified assignment), and medical oncology (chemo hanging not required)
• Competence required with chest tubes, central lines, and heparin drips
• Most common drips include titratable Heparin and set rate Amiodarone and Cardizem
• CPAP and home CPAP use permitted on Med-Surg floors; BiPAP use on Med-Surg floors is rare
• RNs call into the staffing office each shift to receive their unit assignment; no block scheduling or scheduling requests accommodated
• Some assignments on certain units, such as Heart Center, are reserved for core staff and will not be assigned to contract RNs
• Will be expected to work some holidays including 2 of 3 winter holidays
• If not needed, RN will be placed on standby and may be called in at any time during the shift
• 2 years of Med-Surg experience preferred; strong candidates with less experience will be considered
• Epic charting system experience preferred
• Orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts; guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
• Scrubs required in any color; no tattoos visible above the shoulders; only facial piercing permitted is a nose stud
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS
• Oregon RN license required; non-Oregon licensed RNs may be eligible for a 90-day temporary license
• BSN not required
• 50-mile radius restriction applies; local candidates are not accepted

This acute care facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center offering a wide range of inpatient services across multiple medical and surgical units. The facility operates a Med-Surg Float Pool that spans general medicine, cardiology, post-surgical, ortho/neuro, behavioral health, and medical oncology units, supported by centralized telemetry monitoring and dedicated charge nurse leadership.
