Opportunity:

RN - Med Tele / Ortho

Job Details:

• 12-hour night shifts from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM or 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 with nurse aide/patient care tech support at 1:10-20
• Typically scheduled every other weekend, with additional coverage possible based on department demand; schedules posted 6 weeks in advance
• 2-3 holidays required from Thanksgiving to New Year's
• Floating may be required to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients
• Care for patients with diagnoses including joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
• Required to titrate drips including Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine; PCA pumps also used
• Telemetry techs will interpret strips; RNs should maintain tele awareness
• Charge nurse is present on each shift and takes an assignment
• Mechanical lifts available in every other room
• Strong emphasis on hourly rounding and responsiveness
• Unit experiences high volume of discharges and admissions daily
• Serve patients of diverse cultural backgrounds including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese-speaking populations
• Charting system: EPIC
• 2 days of unit/department-specific orientation provided; includes a pass/fail open book exam requiring a minimum score of 90%
• Scrub color: Navy Blue; artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA); ACLS preferred
• Driver's license required at submittal
• Radius rule: candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
• Time off requests must be submitted upfront and are limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved

This acute care facility is a Level 1 trauma center offering comprehensive inpatient medical and surgical services. The 55-bed Med Tele/Ortho unit provides specialized care across both fourth floor north and south wings, supporting a diverse patient population with complex medical and surgical needs. The facility utilizes EPIC for charting and maintains a strong commitment to patient-centered care, team collaboration, and cultural inclusivity.
