Job Opportunity: RN PCU (Travel Nurse)
Location: Murfreesboro, Tennessee
Facility: TNNAS ST Rutherford Hospital
Hospital System: Ascension Health
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Unit Capacity: 36 beds
- Stepdown/PCU patients including:
- Continuous BiPAP
- Low-dose vasopressors
- Trauma patients
- Lumbar drains
- CIWA patients on higher doses of Ativan
- Hyponatremia
- Emergency dialysis patients
- Hyperkalemia
- Antifreeze ingestions
- Home vents (trachs)
- Sheath removal
- Carotid Endarterectomy (CEA)
- Rhabdomyolysis
- Precedex infusions
- Stroke patients with Q2 neuro checks
- Stable craniotomies
- Fentanyl drips
- Patient Age Range: Young Adult through Late Adult (18 - 60+)
- Nurse to Patient Ratio: 4:1
Staffing
- Core staffing includes: Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), Nurse Interns (NIs)
- Each RN assumes full responsibility for their assigned patients
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - Must be AHA certified
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Must be AHA certified
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
- Successful completion of a rhythm test
- Current nursing license with primary source verification within 30 days prior to assignment
- Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
- Completion of required onboarding and competency assessments (see below)
Onboarding & Compliance Requirements
- Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics) - completed within a year of start, updated yearly
- Ascension EKG Exam - passing score of at least 80% required
- Ascension Skills Checklist - clinical skills verification within one year of start, updated annually
- Ascension Cerner Test-Out - required for electronic health record proficiency
- Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding - completed onsite
- Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation
- Ascension Nova StatStrip training
- Ascension Color Vision test - completed prior to start and updated every 3 years
- Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen - within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
- Criminal Background Check, EPLS, Employment Verification, Education Verification, Professional References - all required prior to start
- Confirmation of Assignment documentation required upon initial assignment and updates for extensions
Health & Immunization Requirements
- MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
- Varicella: Documented proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider (no declinations accepted)
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
- Influenza Vaccine: Recommended during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); declinations accepted with mask requirement
- Fit Test: Required annually for respiratory protection
- TB Screening: Positive IGRA or PPD results, negative chest X-ray within one year, and annual TB questionnaire
- Health Statement: Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
Additional Notes
- Post-assignment evaluations and surveys may be required
- Some optional checklists and surveys may be requested but are not mandatory for onboarding
This position is ideal for experienced PCU RNs comfortable managing complex stepdown patients in a fast-paced environment with a variety of acute conditions. Compliance with Ascension Health’s credentialing, onboarding, and health requirements is mandatory.
