Respiratory Care Position

Location: Shreveport, Louisiana
Facility: Willis-Knighton South (part of Willis-Knighton Health system)


Job Overview

  • Work across 4 campuses within a 20-25 minute driving distance:

    • Willis Knighton Medical Center (ED, ICU, Stepdown, Med/Tele)
    • Willis Knighton Bossier (ED, ICU, Stepdown, Med/Tele, L&D - High Risk Deliveries)
    • Willis Knighton Pierremont (ED, ICU, Stepdown, Med/Tele, L&D - High Risk Deliveries)
    • Willis Knighton South (NICU/PICU/Peds – Level 3 NICU and PICU and Adults – ED, ICU, Stepdown, Med/Tele, L&D High Risk Deliveries)
  • Must be comfortable attending high risk deliveries and supporting Level 3 NICU/PICU.

  • Minimum experience: 2+ years in respiratory care.

  • Not accepting first-time travelers; must have completed at least one 13-week assignment.


Patient Types / Common Diagnoses

  • COPD, CHF, Flu, Pneumonia, COVID, ARDS, Lung Cancer, Stroke, ALS
  • Post-operative care: s/p CABG, Liver/Kidney Transplant
  • Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, Radical Head/Neck surgeries requiring tracheostomy
  • Minor trauma (e.g., motor vehicle accidents)
  • GBS, RSV, Cystic Fibrosis
  • High risk delivery neonates

Required Certifications

  • BLS (required)
  • NRP (required)
  • ACLS (preferred)
  • PALS (preferred)
  • National Accreditation through NBRC (required)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) highly preferred; CRT accepted
  • Louisiana State Licensure (required)
  • Valid driver’s license (required for floating between campuses)

Skills Required

  • Experience with high risk deliveries, including neonatal intubation if necessary
  • Airway and ventilator management
  • ABG puncture and analysis
  • Non-invasive ventilation
  • Code Blue and rapid response experience
  • Inhaled medication administration, including nitric oxide

Equipment Used

  • Servo U, Servo I, Trilogy, V60, EV300
  • Vapotherm HVT, Vapotherm Precision Flow, Airvo 2
  • Percussion Air IPV, ResMed Lumis TX (COPD)
  • NICU-specific: Oscillator, Neopuff for deliveries

Department Support

  • Director and Assistant Director of Respiratory Care
  • 2 Shift Supervisors on site at Willis Knighton Medical Center (Days & Nights)
  • 4 Team Leads floating between Willis Knighton Pierremont and South (2 Days, 2 Nights)
  • 4 Respiratory Therapist Educators covering all campuses
  • Department Coordinators for multiple campuses
  • EMR support Respiratory Therapists
  • ECMO Critical Care Coordinator (travelers will not work directly with ECMO)

Charting System

  • Meditech Expanse

Floating Requirements

  • Must be flexible to float among all 4 campuses during the contract
  • Travel time between campuses is approximately 20-25 minutes

Orientation

  • 2 days of system-wide orientation
  • Orientation includes all 4 facilities within 2 days
  • Length and content depend on experience and comfort level

Scheduling

  • 36 or 48-hour rotations
  • Management open to various schedules: 7 on/7 off; 3/2 or 5/2 rotating weeks
  • Shift times: 7 AM - 7 PM and 7 PM - 7 AM
  • Weekend rotation: every other weekend
  • No call required; overtime may be available with approval
  • Holiday work as assigned unless RTO (Release Time Off) is in contract
  • RTO requires manager approval
