Job Opportunity: ED Holds/Tele Nurse

Location: Gilbert, Arizona

Position Overview

• Tele nursing position focused on ED holds patients waiting for placement on a unit, primarily medical-surgical (MS) and telemetry (Tele) patients.
• Nurses will care for more telemetry patients than medical patients.
• Requires strong cardiac telemetry skills with the ability to titrate cardiac drips per physician orders.

• 13 weeks

Patient Care & Unit Details

• Unit has 31 ED beds at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center (and 60 ED beds at CRMC).
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
• Patients are ED holds awaiting inpatient beds.
• Common diagnoses: Cardiac and telemetry patients.

Required Certifications & Skills

• BLS and ACLS required.
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam (max 2 attempts) before starting.
• Must pass a pass/fail simulation lab on day one of orientation.
• Strong cardiac telemetry background preferred (around 2 years).
• Ability to titrate drips such as Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone.
• Nurses must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips; no monitor techs on the unit.

Experience

• Prior travel experience not required for MS/Tele travelers.

Shifts & Scheduling

• 12-hour shifts: 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am.
• Self-scheduling available but may change.
• Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.
• Holiday shifts rotate with permanent staff.
• No call or standby required.

Floating & Orientation

• May float to med/surg, tele, overflow units, and sister ED facility (CRMC).
• Orientation includes 2 shifts on Med/Surg/Tele at the primary campus.

Additional Information

• Nurses may assist with ED patients by taking vitals, starting IVs, and administering medications but will not be primary RN for ED patient assignments.
• Dress code: Navy scrub color.
• ED PCTs available; no ventilators on this unit.

This role is ideal for nurses with strong telemetry and cardiac skills who are comfortable working in a fast-paced ED hold environment with a focus on tele patients.
