Imaging Services - Radiologic Technologist

Location: Tacoma, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Provide X-ray services across multiple hospital units including Mary Bridge and Tacoma General.
  • Imaging pediatric and adult patients in inpatient, outpatient, ED, trauma, NICU, and OR settings.
  • Work independently with other staff in a fast-paced acute care environment.

Schedule & Shift Details

  • Shift: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday every other week
  • Hours: 2:30 PM – 12:30 AM
  • Rotation: 7 days on, 7 days off
  • Weekend rotation based on department needs
  • On-call: 24 hours of weekend call per month (may be split into two 12-hour shifts)
  • On-call shifts: Saturday & Sunday 6:00 AM – 6:00 AM, Monday – Friday 5:00 PM – 6:00 AM
  • Must be onsite within 30 minutes of call
  • Holiday work required if scheduled

Unit Information & Patient Types

  • X-ray Rooms:
    • 3 Fluoroscopy
    • 4 Plain Film
    • 7 Portables
    • 7 C-arms
    • 1 O-ARM
  • Average X-rays per day: 190 (24-hour period)
  • Patient population: Neonates through geriatrics, including ICU and trauma patients
  • Patient types: Inpatient, outpatient, ED, trauma, NICU, OR
  • Patient ratio: 1:1

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-2 years acute care experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted if they have acute care experience
  • Required Licenses/Certifications:
    • BLS
    • ARRT or RCIS
    • Washington State Radiologic Technologist License

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong independent worker
  • Proficient in general X-ray (plain film, abdomen, pelvis), fluoroscopy, OR & trauma imaging
  • Portable imaging experience required
  • Knowledgeable with C-arms and OEC C-arms (required)
  • Experience transporting ED patients to/from X-ray
  • EPIC EMR experience required (Radiant subset used)
  • Familiarity with McKesson PACS, Siemens digital x-ray, Shimadzu portable x-ray preferred

Orientation & Training

  • 4-5 days hospital and unit orientation
  • Training includes fluoroscopy, RA, OR, ED, and float roles focusing on inpatient portables
  • 8-10 hour shifts during orientation based on daily needs
  • Completion of compliance check-off sheet required

Department Support

  • RT coverage 24/7
  • Hospitalist and intensivist support 24/7

Floating

  • Yes, floating to all department areas and Mary Bridge

Dress Code & Other Notes

  • Scrub color: Any except camo, denim, or hoodies; hospital provides OR scrubs for OR work
  • Closed-toe shoes required
  • Free parking in designated areas

  • Compliance with various health and safety documentation and certifications including:
    • Flu documentation, annual competencies, ARRT, BLS, criminal background check, drug screen, immunizations (Hep B, MMR, Varicella, TDAP), HIPAA, physical exam, and others as required by the facility.
