Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (CVOR RN)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (10:30 AM - 11:00 PM)
  • On-Call: Yes, 1 weekend 24-hour call per month (Saturday or Sunday)
  • Holiday Coverage: Possible holiday shifts required
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • Experience Details:
    • Must be able to circulate in all services including CT, Vascular, Surgical Oncology, Plastics, Colorectal, Robotics, Bariatric
    • Scrubbing cardiac/vascular cases highly preferred
    • First-time travelers not preferred
  • Licensure: South Carolina RN license or multi-state RN license required at start of contract
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (AHA)
    • ACLS (AHA)
    • Radiation badge (provided by agency)

Important Notes

  • Local Radius Rule: 60 miles
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis
  • Facility Call-Off Policy: Facility may call off traveler for 1 shift per 2 weeks (pay period)
  • Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of work eligibility (I-9, E-Verify)
  • Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
  • Social Security Card or SSN verification
  • Background checks including:
    • SSN Trace
    • County and state criminal checks (7 years)
    • Sex Offender Registry
    • National Criminal and FACIS 3
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification (diploma/transcripts)
  • Clinical references (2 required)
  • Employment history verification (last 3 clinical employers)
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Radiation badge process and tracking (required for CVOR RN)

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS: Required for all clinical staff (AHA or ARC accepted)
  • ACLS: Required for adult critical care units, cath lab, ER, ICU, interventional radiology, PACU, PCU, pre-op, observation units
  • PALS: Required for pediatric units except Pediatric OR; preferred for Pediatric OR
  • TNCC: Required as applicable; not required for ER RNs
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for ER
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable
  • Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
  • Competency Exam: Required; Pediatric OR candidates may use regular OR competency exam if no pediatric experience
  • IV Certification: Required for select LPNs (if applicable)
  • Tech Certification: Required for allied health professionals as applicable

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers required or proof of immunity for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest X-ray if positive history
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30)
  • CBC and Comprehensive Metabolic Panel required for Sterile Processing Techs

Orientation & Facility Specifics

  • Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
  • Upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into facility system
  • Passport-style photo required for badge (frontal view, solid light background, business casual attire)
  • First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules provided after clearance
  • Radiation badge must be received before starting floor work; may orient without badge but cannot work until received

This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs with required certifications and licensure ready to work in a Level I Trauma Center with a teaching and Magnet designation. Candidates should be prepared for on-call duties, holiday coverage, and compliance with extensive health and background requirements.
