Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (CVICCU RN)

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICCU) Registered Nurse
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 AM - 7 PM), dayshift
  • Holiday Rotation: Yes
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Yes, may float within scope to like units or sister facilities

Experience & Licensing Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience
  • Cardiac experience required
  • South Carolina nursing license or Compact license must be active prior to start
  • First-time travelers not accepted

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC) - check with team if applicable

Scheduling & Hours

Important Seasonal Note

  • During hurricane season (June - November, peak in August and September), all staff including contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams. Avoid confirming new or extension assignments during this period if this is a concern.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Must include: SSN Trace, SC Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3, International searches
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated with renewals

Licensure Verification

  • Primary source verification of SC RN license required
  • NURSYS verification required for all RNs
  • Walk-through (temporary) license option available for eligible candidates without SC license (not for those with background hits)

Health & Immunizations

  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if low titer
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), medical/religious exemptions accepted (no declinations)
  • COVID-19 vaccine highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Respirator medical clearance required annually for patient-facing staff

Certifications

  • Must be current and not expiring within 30 days of assignment start
  • Copies of all certifications must be provided

Facility-Specific Documents

  • Photo for badge (passport-style, frontal view)
  • Signed assignment acknowledgment, confidentiality agreements, code of conduct, HR policy manual, system user agreements, and job description prior to start
  • Completion of orientation modules (approx. 2-4 hours depending on campus) before orientation; failure to complete results in being sent home
  • Upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into facility system

References & Work History

  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
  • Performance evaluation dated within 12 months of start required
  • Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers (exceptions apply)

Additional Notes

  • Radiation badge required for certain specialties (OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, Radiology) but not for Ultrasound or Mammography techs
  • Facility uses Epic for charting
  • No parking fees for staff
  • Block scheduling requests require prior approval
  • Locals may be considered but at a reduced rate

This position is ideal for experienced CVICCU RNs with cardiac experience who hold a valid SC or Compact nursing license and current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications, seeking a 13-week travel assignment in an acute care hospital setting with a 1:2 patient ratio and day shifts.
