Job Opportunity: Observation Nurse - Chandler, Arizona
Position Details
- Specialty: Observation
- Location: Chandler, AZ
- Unit: Observation (16 beds, extension of ER)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Requirements
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Experience: Minimum 2 years recent experience (within past 6 months)
- Restrictions:
- Must not live within 50 miles of the facility (must provide current driver's license)
- Cannot have worked permanently at this healthcare system within the past 12 months (no exceptions)
- Exams:
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 24-48 hours of offer (max 2 attempts)
- Pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation (failure results in removal from eligibility for 6 months)
Work Environment
- Charge Nurse: Present 24/7
- Nurse Aides: PCTs staffed per census for primary care
- Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
- Holiday Coverage: Rotates with core staff; must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Scrub Color: Navy
- Ventilators: No vents, BiPAP, or CPAP on unit
- Hospitalist Coverage: Hospitalist covers call
- Respiratory Therapist: Available 24/7
- Pharmacy: Available 24/7
- Floating: Required; may float to any telemetry or med/surg floor
- Orientation: 2 days floor-specific orientation
Patient Population & Care
- Common diagnoses include:
- Chest pain rule out MI
- Post heart catheterization (no sheaths)
- Stable pre-CABG
- Post interventional radiology and endovascular procedures
- Medications commonly used: Non-titration Amiodarone, Cardizem, Labetalol
- No patients with alcohol withdrawal unless 3 days out
Additional Notes
- Critical thinking skills are essential
- Floating priority: first to float
- Weekend and holiday scheduling is structured and mandatory
