Physical Therapist Assistant - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Florence, South Carolina
Specialty: Therapy/Rehabilitation
Facility Type: Hospital-based inpatient rehab unit
Unit Beds: 28 staffed beds
Position Details
- Shift: 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Possibly one weekend per month
- On-call: No
- Holiday Requirement: Yes
- Floating: No floating between units or sister facilities
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience & Licensing Requirements
- Experience:
- Inpatient rehab experience in a hospital setting required
- New graduates accepted if they have fieldwork experience in inpatient rehab
- License: South Carolina Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) License required
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required

- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks

Certifications & Training Requirements
- Mandatory Certifications:
- BLS (AHA or ARC only)
- ACLS, PALS, NRP as required by unit (AHA or ARC only)
- Other certifications (e.g., TNCC, EFM) as applicable
- Certification Validity: Certifications must not expire within 30 days of assignment start; renewals or scheduled courses required if close to expiration
- Orientation: Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approx. 4 hours) prior to start is mandatory
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo required
Background & Compliance Checks
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Includes SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and for every contract renewal
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts may be required as placeholder if verification is pending
- State-specific Medicaid excluded provider check required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
- Immunizations:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters if low titer)
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters if low titer)
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal Vaccinations:
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccine highly preferred but not required; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for respirator use (RespSafety questionnaire)
Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Performance evaluation dated within 12 months of start
- Complete employment application/resume
- Skills checklist updated annually (if applicable)
- Radiation badge required only if assigned to OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, or Radiology (not required for MRI, Mammography, Ultrasound Techs)
Additional Notes
- Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June-November, peak Aug-Sept)
- All required documents and certifications must be submitted and approved prior to start
- Facility-specific COVID exemption forms available for religious exemptions
- Travelers must upload vaccination and flu documentation into the facility’s system prior to start
