Job Opportunity: RN Step Down

Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work schedule: Every Other Week (EOW) and Every Other Holiday (EOH)
  • Requires 2 years of experience in PCU (Progressive Care Unit) / Med-Surg Telemetry Acute Care
  • Placement on unit with greatest need: PCU, Med/Surg, or Telemetry unit based on skills
  • Accepts RNs with Med/Surg or Stepdown experience (same credentialing for both)
  • Must be willing to float onsite within skill set or to other sites within 40 miles if needed

Required Credentials & Certifications

Licenses & Verification

  • Current nursing license with Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
  • License/Certificate primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Driver’s License or State ID (must not be expired and address must match records)

Certifications (Must be AHA approved)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Health & Immunizations

  • MMR: Proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
  • Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider (no declinations accepted)
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
  • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement
  • Fit Test: Required annually; preferred before start, can be done onsite
  • 2 Step PPD or IGRA (TB testing): Required with specific timing and annual updates
  • Positive PPD requires negative chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire
  • Health Statement: Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • 12 Panel Drug Screen: Within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter

Testing & Competency Requirements

  • Ascension Core Competencies: HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80% score; updated yearly
  • Ascension EKG Exam: Passing score of at least 80%; only two attempts allowed; updated as per latest edition
  • Ascension Specialty Exam: Minimum 80% or national benchmark; updated every 3 years
  • Ascension Epic Test-Out: Epic system competency test and training checklist with signed attestation
  • Ascension Skills Checklist: Clinical skills checklist; updated annually for specialty

Onboarding & Other Requirements

  • Completion of Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation (6 hours pre-hire training)
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (done onsite)
  • Ascension Nova StatStrip pre-hire modules (for non-allied positions)
  • Ascension Badge Photo: Forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no alterations
  • Professional references: At least two professional references required prior to first assignment
  • Criminal Background Check: Includes SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender check; updated annually
  • EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) check within 90 days of start
  • Education Verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start
  • Employment Verification for past 7 years; updated annually
  • Confirmation of Assignment documentation required upon initial assignment and extensions

Notes

  • Floating to other units or sites within 40 miles may be required based on staffing needs
  • Must complete all required documentation and testing prior to assignment start or as specified
  • Some optional documents and evaluations may be requested but are not mandatory for onboarding

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg or Stepdown RNs looking for a 13-week travel assignment in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with a reputable healthcare system.
