Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract Position

Location: San Francisco, California
Facility: UCSF Health Stanyan Hospital


Job Details

  • Shift: 10-hour day shifts with variable start times
  • On-Call: Required; minimum 8 days per 4-week scheduling period
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years recent experience as a staff nurse in an acute care hospital
  • At least 1 year recent experience in critical care with knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring
  • 3-5 years combined experience in PACU, ICU, CCU, and/or Cath Lab
  • Knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology (EP) procedures, including equipment, accessories, surgical procedures, sterile technique, and patient care
  • 1 year of directly related RN experience in Cardiac Electrophysiology lab, Interventional Radiology (IR), or Cardiac Catheterization lab
  • Minimum 5 years clinical nursing or equivalent professional experience
  • Must participate in on-call and late stay shifts as required
  • Willingness and ability to float to other UCSF units and facilities as needed

Required Certifications

  • California RN License
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Current and valid Driver’s License or government photo ID matching professional license
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender Search, and Education Verification
  • Transcript or diploma acceptable for education verification
  • Pass/Fail Medication Calculation and Telemetry exams required on first day of orientation
  • Unit-specific competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency exams with passing scores required
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start including physician statement of fitness to work
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types required)
  • Immunizations and titers: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years), Negative TB tests (2 required), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug testing: Standard 9-panel excluding THC, within 30 days of start and every 2 years thereafter
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccination requirements or approved exemptions as per UCSF policy
  • Annual TB questionnaire and other health screenings as required

Facility Specific Information

  • Scrubs provided for Cardiac Cath Lab, Burn Unit, OR, and Surgical Services; other units have specific scrub color requirements
  • Photo for badge must be submitted by Monday prior to start week, with specific photo guidelines
  • Parking and uniform policies must be reviewed and acknowledged prior to start
  • COVID-19 preparedness and related documentation must be reviewed and acknowledged
  • Learning modules must be completed ASAP after compliance clearance; prior UCSF experience within 6 months may waive this requirement
  • Wage Benefit Parity (WBP) form required for all clinical candidates under UC Health profiles

Additional Notes

  • Two supervisory references required, preferably from the most recent employment
  • Updated resume with last 7 years of work history required; gaps of 30 days or more must be explained
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be updated annually
  • Work history verification for 7 years required, with third-party verification if needed
  • Must be able to pass UCSF’s pass/fail testing on medication calculation and telemetry

This position requires a highly experienced critical care nurse with specialized cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology skills, flexibility for on-call and floating duties, and full compliance with UCSF’s extensive credentialing and health requirements.
