Description

MedSurg D5 Nurse Opportunity

Location: Chandler, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years recent experience (within past 6 months) in MedSurg with telemetry experience
  • Must have current ACLS and BLS certifications
  • Must be able to read cardiac strips and titrate down Amiodarone and Cardizem
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam (max 2 attempts) within 48 hours of offer
  • Must pass a pass/fail Sim Lab on day one of orientation
  • Cannot live within 50 miles of the facility
  • Must provide current driver's license

Unit Details

  • Unit: MedSurg A3 (formerly C5)
  • 32 beds: Orthopedics, Surgical, Oncology
  • Patient ratio: 1:4 (days and nights)
  • Charge Nurse present (does not take patients) and Unit Supervisor on site
  • Nurse Aides: PCTs during day shifts; 1 PCT or Task RN at night
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (days: Sat, Sun; nights: Fri, Sat), including one major and one minor holiday
  • Scrub color: Navy
  • Telemetry monitors: GE with central monitoring station tech
  • Ventilator patients: None on this unit
  • Physician coverage: Must call hospitalist or intensivist as needed (not in-house)
  • IV team: No dedicated IV team; House SWAT nurse available for difficult IV sticks
  • Respiratory Therapist: Available 24/7
  • Pharmacy: 24/7 coverage with ICU pharmacist on day shifts
  • Shifts: 12-hour shifts, 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am
  • Floating: Float to MedSurg Telemetry units B2C and B2D
  • Orientation: 2 shifts floor-specific orientation

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

  • 80% Surgical patients, 20% Oncology
  • Orthopedics: JCAHO-certified knee and hip program with 8-10 elective knee/hip surgeries per week
  • Other surgeries: Urological, Abdominal, Whipple, Women’s surgeries (no OB/GYN)

Additional Notes

  • Use of Spectralink phones with call light attached
  • Floating includes potential float to sister facility
  • First to float on schedule
  • 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule
