Registered Nurse (MICU RN) - Florence, South Carolina

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Registered Nurse
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 AM - 7 PM), dayshift
  • Holiday Rotation: Yes
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Yes, must float within scope to like units/sister facilities (agency staff floats first)

Experience & Licensing Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year preferred, ideally 2 years
  • First-time Travelers: Not accepted
  • Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Compact license required prior to start

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (AHA or ARC only; RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (AHA or ARC only)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) — check with team for specifics
  • Certifications must not expire within 30 days of assignment start; renewals or scheduled courses required if close to expiration

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Must include: SSN Trace, SC Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals

Education & Licensure Verification

  • Primary source verification of SC RN license required
  • NURSYS verification required for all RNs
  • Education verification not required for this facility but diploma/transcripts preferred as placeholder if needed

Health & Immunizations

  • Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption accepted (no declinations)
  • COVID-19 vaccinations highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated (no longer mandatory as of 8/5/2023)
  • Respirator medical clearance required annually for patient-facing staff

Facility-Specific Documents & Training

  • Completion of First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
  • Passport-style photo for badge
  • Signed assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual, systems user agreement, user access request, and job description
  • MINI orientation review and acknowledgement
  • Upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into OurDay platform

Other Requirements

  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance evaluation dated within 12 months of start
  • Complete employment application/resume
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Radiation badge required only for specific departments (not required for MICU)
  • Work history verification not required for this facility

  • Candidates must have all required documentation and certifications uploaded and valid prior to start.
  • Facility allows floating to meet staffing needs.
  • No local travelers accepted; must be willing to travel within 60 miles.
  • Block scheduling requests can be made but are not guaranteed.
