Job Description

  • Position: Adult Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM), including holidays as needed
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Possible float to similar units (Adult ICU, Stepdown, Floorcare)
  • Work Environment: High acuity adult critical care settings including ICU, Stepdown, and floor care
  • Charting Systems: Epic (preferred), Cerner (preferred)
  • Scrub Color: Caribbean blue
  • Parking: Free

Requirements

Experience & Certifications

  • Minimum 1 year of adult critical care experience required
  • Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with BLS certification
  • NBRC and South Carolina Respiratory Care Provider (SC RCP) certifications accepted
  • EPIC and Cerner experience preferred
  • Radiation badge: Not required

Licensure

  • South Carolina RRT license must be active and in hand at the time of assignment start
  • Pending state licenses are not accepted

Scheduling & Other

  • Open to block scheduling with prior approval (not guaranteed)
  • Radius rule: 60 miles
  • Locals accepted on a case-by-case basis
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
  • Must include SSN trace, statewide and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals

Certifications

  • ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (AHA only)
  • Other certifications as required by unit/job description (PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke, etc.)
  • Certifications must not expire within 30 days of assignment start; renewals or scheduled courses required if close to expiration
  • State license primary source verification required
  • NURSYS verification for applicable licenses
  • IV Therapy certification required for select LPNs if applicable

Health & Immunizations

  • Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days of start, renewed annually
  • Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if prior positive
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30)
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated

Facility Specific

  • Completion of orientation modules (approx. 2 hours) prior to start
  • Upload clear, passport-style photo for badge
  • First Day Instructions and OurDay modules must be completed before orientation; failure to complete may result in being sent home
  • Upload vaccination records (COVID and flu) into facility system

Employment History & References

  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or all if fewer than 3)
  • Complete employment application/resume
  • Skills checklist updated annually

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be willing to comply with all facility policies and documentation requirements
  • Facility may require participation in emergency response during hurricane season (June-November)
  • Facility allows locals but with adjusted pay considerations
  • Facility may call off shifts as needed but guarantees a minimum number of hours
