Job Opportunity: RN ICU - Travel Position

Location: Waco, Texas
Specialty: Registered Nurse - ICU

Job Description

  • Minimum of 3 years ICU experience required.
  • Work in a conglomerate ICU unit covering medical, surgical, and cardiovascular patients.
  • Must be able to float between critical care service lines, including ICU and step-down units.

Required Credentials & Certifications

  • BLS (AHA certified)
  • ACLS (AHA certified)
  • Nursys license verification within 30 days prior to start (disciplinary actions require additional documentation).
  • Current nursing license with primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.
  • Ascension Specialty Exam: Completed prior to first assignment, updated every 3 years, minimum 80% passing score.
  • Ascension Color Vision Test: Completed prior to start, updated every 3 years.
  • Ascension Core Competencies: HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; completed within a year of start and updated yearly, minimum 80% score.
  • NIH Certification: Group A updated yearly, Groups B-F updated every 2 years.
  • Ascension EKG Exam: Completed prior to start, minimum 80% passing score.
  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation: Completed pre-hire.
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding: Completed onsite prior to start.
  • Ascension Nova StatStrip: Pre-hire modules for non-allied positions.
  • Ascension Epic Test-Out: Completed prior to start.
  • Driver’s License/State ID: Valid, must match address on file; specific rules apply for out-of-state placements.

Immunizations & Health Requirements

  • MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted.
  • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination.
  • Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted but mask required.
  • Positive PPD or Negative Chest X-Ray and Annual TB Questionnaire: Must provide positive IGRA or PPD results, chest x-ray within a year showing no infection, and completed TB questionnaire.
  • 2 Step PPD OR IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): Required within specified timeframes.
  • Varicella: Documented proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history; no declinations accepted.
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted.
  • Fit Test: Required annually; preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite.

Additional Requirements

  • Health Statement: Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen: Completed within 30 days prior to start and updated annually.
  • Ascension Skills Checklist: Clinical skills checklist completed within one year of start and updated annually.
  • Ascension Criminal Background Check: Includes SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, and national sex offender check; completed within 30 days prior to start and updated annually.
  • Ascension EPLS: Completed within 90 days prior to start and rerun if break in service > 90 days.
  • Ascension Education Verification: Verification of education relevant to clinical work within 90 days prior to start.
  • Ascension Employment Verification: Third-party employment verification for past 7 years; updated annually.
  • Ascension Confirmation of Assignment: Provided upon initial assignment and updated with each extension.
  • Ascension 2 Professional References: At least two professional references completed prior to first assignment.
  • Ascension Profile (Resume): Required for submission.

Notes

  • Flu season mask policy applies from October 1 through March 31.
  • Floating between ICU and step-down units is required.
  • Multiple Ascension-specific exams and checklists must be completed prior to or at the start of assignment.
  • Some optional documents/checklists may be requested but are not mandatory for onboarding.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses comfortable with a variety of critical care patients and flexible in their assignments within the critical care service line.
