Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Greensboro, North Carolina
Facility: Medical Neuroscience Progressive Care Unit (3 West) – 30 beds
Hospital System: Cone Health MSP


Job Details

  • Shift: Nights, 3x12-hour shifts (7 PM – 7 AM)
  • Schedule: Rotating weekends, float required across all Cone Health facilities as needed
  • Holiday Requirement: One holiday and one holiday eve shift required (greatest day shift need on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Description

  • 3 West is a Medical Neuroscience Progressive Care Unit focusing on medical neurological patients.
  • Centralized Cardiac Monitoring Department (CCMD) provides patient monitoring surveillance.
  • Staff schedules are created in 6-week periods via self-scheduling system (Optilink).

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
  • Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience required
  • First-time travelers are welcome
  • Previous Charge RN experience preferred

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Pass/Fail EKG (Dysrhythmia) Exam required for all RNs (2 attempts allowed, must score 82% or higher)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (check with program management)

Skills & Clinical Competencies

  • Experience with CVA (stroke) patients
  • Knowledge of External CPAP/BiPAP
  • Familiarity with TR band and Yale Swallowing Screen
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams required as applicable
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required (time sensitive, must be on file within 24 hours of qualification)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Social Security Card (required for badge)
  • Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Education verification (primary source, 3rd party) with foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • Transcript/Diploma for highest education (if applicable)
  • Fingerprinting (NC SBI Fingerprint Results) required for Home Health and Long-Term Care only
  • Employment application/resume with 7-year work history
  • Work history verification for last 5 years (third-party verification required)
  • Two supervisory references required (one within 12 months, one within 24 months)
  • Annual skills checklist with one-week grace period for renewal
  • Facility-specific documents including floating policy, contractor equipment acknowledgement, dress code, and job description acknowledgment
  • Badge photo meeting strict facility requirements (no selfies, solid color background, business casual or uniform attire)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam (if applicable) within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test (annual, approved N95 respirators required)
  • Adult Tdap vaccine proof required
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 6 months of start
  • TB questionnaire within 30 days of start and annually thereafter
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer or declination with booster series as applicable
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • COVID-19 vaccination or declination accepted

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be flexible with scheduling and aware of zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences.
  • Compliance deadlines are strict; all documentation must be completed by 12 Noon EST the Wednesday prior to start date.
  • Floating across all Cone Health facilities is mandatory for all travelers.
  • Candidates must acknowledge and complete required orientation and safety manuals.
  • Pass/fail testing (EKG and medication) is mandatory for all RNs except Behavioral Health and Case Managers.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized neuroscience progressive care setting with a supportive team and structured scheduling. Candidates must meet strict compliance and certification requirements to ensure patient safety and quality care.
