ICU/MS/Tele/PCU Float Pool Nurse - Prescott, Arizona
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Unit/Department
- Float Pool covering ICU, MedSurg Telemetry, and PCU across two campuses
- Includes inpatient holding in the Emergency Department
- East Campus (Campus 2) includes ICU and stepdown patients in a 10-bed double occupancy unit
- West Campus Stepdown: 14 rooms (double occupancy), average census 20
- West MedSurg Telemetry: 95 beds divided into 4 areas
- MedSurg broken into 10-room pods, double occupancy
Nurse:Patient Ratios
- PCU: 1:4
- MedSurg Telemetry: 1:5-6
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year ICU experience required
- Must pass dysrhythmia exam with at least 80% within two attempts before contract signing
- Comfortable titrating drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Insulin
- RNs are required to titrate drips
Patient Population / Common Diagnoses
- Geriatric patients
- Orthopedic patients
- Post-procedural cardiac patients (post MI, post cardiac cath, CABG post-op day 3-4)
- Strong cath lab program; care includes groin sites in stepdown unit
Staffing & Support
- Charge nurse on each unit does not take patient assignments
- Nurse aides utilized in all settings
- Monitor techs monitor PCU and MedSurg Telemetry units; nurses interpret cardiac strips
Respiratory Therapy Equipment
- CPAP or BiPAP used at night in MedSurg
- BiPAP, CPAP, and Heated High Flow oxygen available in PCU
Scheduling & Shifts
- 12-hour shifts: 7 AM - 7 PM (day and night shifts)
- Schedule published 6 weeks in advance, 4 weeks at a time
- Float pool scheduler assigns shifts; travelers must be flexible
- Night shift may allow block scheduling
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday coverage included in permanent staff rotation
- Call/standby required on shifts with excessive staff; standby nurses may be called in during their 12-hour shift
Assignment Notification
- Units assigned via text message approximately 2 hours before shift start
- Distance between campuses: 20-25 minutes
Orientation
- 8-hour general hospital orientation day
- 12-hour shift orientation at West MedSurg Telemetry
- 12-hour shift orientation at PCU West Campus
- East campus orientation similar but smaller and easier to navigate
Additional Notes
- Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year
- Scrub color currently solid professional colors; transitioning to navy scrubs per Dignity guidelines starting October
