Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry) - Akron, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Location: Akron, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 18 months recent permanent Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience prior to travel assignment.
- Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand.
- Certifications required:
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Experience with Med/Surg Telemetry patient care.
Documentation & Compliance
Identification
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried on assignment.
Background Checks
- Comprehensive background check required prior to start, including:
- FCRA compliant 7-year search (SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide, sex offender, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, education verification).
- Background checks must be updated annually and after breaks in service of 2+ months.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 48 hours of contract signing, results valid for 12 months and updated annually.
- Fingerprints must be completed under nursing-specific code (4723.09).
- Facility will conduct their own fingerprinting in addition to agency process.
- Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
Education Verification
- Required for all candidates.
- International education verifications require CGFNS documentation as a placeholder if third-party verification is delayed.
Certifications & Testing
- BLS and ACLS: AHA only (Instructor or Provider); RQI acceptable. Must be current and renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
- PALS: Preferred but not required for this role.
- Other certifications: Not required for this position but may be relevant for other specialties (e.g., TNCC for ER, CNOR for OR).
- Pass/Fail Testing: EKG and medication competency testing required onsite during orientation for all bedside RNs (except OR). Retakes allowed after 1 week if needed.
- Competency Exams: Unit-specific competency exams required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually.
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing: Required for all nursing positions except OR.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, including assessment of ability to perform essential job functions and Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
- Fit Mask: N95 fit testing required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
- Immunizations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) or chest X-ray if history of positive TB, updated annually.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if titers negative/equivocal.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if titers negative/equivocal.
- Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination documented.
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31).
- Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
- Eye Exam: Required within 1 year of start for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later.
Employment History & References
- Employment application must include at least 3 years prior work history, with at least 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.
- Two professional references required from employment within one year of start, from a manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director (co-worker references not accepted).
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of online onboarding and training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone).
- Modules include SafeMedicate preparation and other facility-specific training.
- Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background).
- Candidates with gaps longer than 6 months between Cleveland Clinic assignments must complete modules again.
- Candidates must comply with all facility policies and complete required documentation before clearance to start.
Summary
This is a travel/contract Registered Nurse position for Med/Surg Telemetry on the night shift in Akron, Ohio. Candidates must have recent permanent Med/Surg Telemetry experience, current Ohio or compact state nursing license, and required certifications (BLS, ACLS). Comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, health screenings, immunizations, and facility-specific onboarding are mandatory. The contract length is approximately 13 weeks.
