ICU Nurse Travel Opportunity - Santa Maria, California

Position Overview

• Experienced ICU nurse needed for a travel contract.
• Must have at least 2 full years of ICU experience.
• Active California nursing license required.
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit: ICU
• Number of beds: 20
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 to 1:2
• Charge nurse role available (does not take patient assignments)
• No nurse aides on the unit
• EMR system: Cerner
• Tele/Monitor Techs: Phillips monitors; nurses must read and interpret telemetry strips when monitor tech not present
• Drips commonly used: Norepinephrine, Precedex, Epinephrine, Vasopressin, etc.
• Ventilator: Puritan Bennett 840
• Intensivist coverage: 24/7 in-house intensivist
• Respiratory Therapist: Available 24/7
• Pharmacy: Available 24/7
• IV Team: Not available

Work Schedule & Orientation

• Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm or 7pm-7am)
• Self-scheduling used but not always guaranteed
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday shifts worked in rotation with permanent staff
• Floor-specific orientation: 1 shift
• Floating: Required to float to Acute General (AG) unit to work ICU
• Scrub color: Navy

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Neuro trauma
• Cardiac surgical patients including open heart, post catheterization, aortic dissection, femoral-popliteal bypasses, thoracotomies
• Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) patients

• COVID vaccine required
• Night shift (7pm-7am) every other week is first to float
