Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: San Francisco, California
Facility: UCSF Health Medical Center


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 15 weeks
  • Shift: 10-hour day shifts
  • Unit: Mount Zion (part of UCSF Health)
  • Floating: Must be willing and able to float to other UCSF units and facilities as needed

Requirements

  • Current California RN license
  • AHA BLS & ACLS certifications (AHA only, no placeholders)
  • PDRN certification
  • Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) experience
  • Ability to circulate and scrub in surgical specialties, especially:
    • Orthopedics (Joints and general)
    • ENT
    • Ophthalmology
  • Experience with airway management and aseptic technique
  • Experience in surgeries including:
    • General
    • Endoscopy/Laparoscopy
    • Gynecology
    • Plastics
    • Podiatry

Certifications & Competencies

  • Mandatory Certifications:
    • ACLS (AHA)
    • BLS (AHA)
    • PALS (for applicable units)
    • NRP (for applicable units)
    • CHEMO (for Oncology and Peds Oncology)
    • TNCC (may be required for ER/ED)
    • EFM (for Labor & Delivery)
    • CPI (for Psych positions)
    • Pass/Fail Medication Calculation Exam (required for all RNs)
    • State License Verification (Primary Source within 30 days of start)
    • NURSYS Verification (within 30 days of start)
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score 80%)
    • Unit Specific Competency Exam (passing score 80%)
    • Core Parts I, II, III (passing score 80%)

Background & Documentation

  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including specific Bay Area counties
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript acceptable
  • Sex offender search required for extensions with gaps over 30 days
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Two supervisory references required (one within last year preferred)
  • Current and updated resume with last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30+ days must be explained
  • Work history verification for 7 years required

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including physician statement of fitness to work
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved masks required)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations not accepted)
  • Two negative TB tests required:
    • One within 1 year of start
    • One within 3 months of start
  • Annual TB questionnaire within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug testing: Standard 9-panel (excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccination requirements:
    • Booster 2 required for all travelers
    • Seasonal vaccination or approved exemption required
  • COVID-19 questionnaire must be completed prior to start

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Must complete UCSF Learning Center modules ASAP after compliance clearance
  • Must review and initial COVID-19 preparedness, parking, uniform, and other facility-specific documents prior to start
  • Wage Benefit Parity (WBP) form required for all clinical and non-clinical candidates under UC Health profile
  • Annual Cyber Security Awareness Training and quiz required
  • Emergency contact information must be provided
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) may be required for ER/ED

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared for pass/fail medication and telemetry exams on the first day of orientation
  • Candidates may be required to complete respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and fit testing onsite if assigned to certain departments
  • Religious and medical exemptions for COVID-19 vaccination require advance submission and approval

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with strong surgical specialty skills and flexibility to float within a large academic medical center.
