Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Greensboro, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Nights (7 PM - 7 AM), every other week (EOW)
  • Holidays: As needed
  • Float: Required across all facilities if needed
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years required; first-time travelers are welcome
  • Unit: Med-Surg Tele (due to EKG requirement), patient population primarily Med-Surg
  • Patient Types:
    • Observation patients
    • Respiratory conditions
    • General Medical Surgical diagnoses
    • Palliative, End of Life, Hospice patients
    • Psychiatric Observation
    • Diabetes (including new diabetics and complicated cases)
    • Surgical patients and surgical observation
  • Electronic Health Record: EPIC
  • Preferred: Previous Charge RN experience

Mandatory Requirements & Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS): Required (AHA or ARC)
  • EKG Exam: Pass/fail EKG exam required during onboarding (2 attempts allowed)
  • Pass/Fail Testing: Required for all RNs except Behavioral Health & Case Managers
  • Additional Certifications (as applicable):
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (required for Cardiac Progressive Care, MS/Tele units)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - may be preferred
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - may be preferred
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Must score 80% or higher
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Must score 82% or higher, time sensitive (within 24 hours of qualification)

Licensure & Verification

  • State License: North Carolina RN license required with primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS Verification: Required within 60 days of start
  • Education Verification: Associate's degree in nursing or higher required; strict verification policies apply
  • Foreign Equivalency: Required if education obtained outside the U.S. (30 days allowed post-start for official form)

Compliance & Background Checks

  • Background Check: Must be completed within 60 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Fingerprinting: Required for Home Health and Long-Term Care positions only; must be completed in North Carolina
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start (includes THC, opiates, methadone, cocaine, PCP, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, oxycodone, propoxyphene)
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical Exam (if applicable)
    • Fit Mask Test (annual, specific approved N95 respirators)
    • Immunizations: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
    • TB Testing: Negative TB or Chest X-Ray within 6 months, TB Questionnaire within 30 days of start and annually
    • Seasonal Vaccinations: Flu (or medical/religious exemption), COVID-19 (vaccination or declination accepted)

Additional Requirements

  • References: Two supervisory references required from clinical positions (one within 12 months, one within 24 months)
  • Employment History: 7 years work history required, with verification of last 5 years
  • Skills Checklist: Annual skills checklist with a one-week grace period for renewal
  • Photo for Badge: Strict photo requirements (no selfies, solid color background, business casual or uniform attire)
  • Floating Policy: Must review and sign floating policy for contracted staff
  • Contractor Equipment Acknowledgement: Must review and sign

Important Notes

  • Candidates must be flexible with scheduling and aware of zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences.
  • Compliance deadlines are strict; all documentation must be completed timely for clearance.
  • Candidates must be aware of and agree to pass/fail testing requirements including EPIC and EKG exams.
  • All travelers are subject to float across all facilities within the health system.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic Med-Surg Tele unit with a diverse patient population and requires strong clinical skills, flexibility, and compliance with rigorous credentialing and testing standards.
