Job Opportunity: FBC/L&D Registered Nurse

Location: Socorro, New Mexico

Job Summary

This role involves floating between departments and/or local locations within a 20-mile radius.

Antepartum Responsibilities

• Assess triage patients >20 weeks gestation using obstetric triage acuity tools
• Labor assessment and evaluation
• Fetal evaluation and assessment
• Evaluate for labor at term, preterm labor signs, preeclampsia symptoms, rupture of membranes, decreased fetal movement, vaginal bleeding, and acute/critical conditions (e.g., motor vehicle accidents, abruptio placentae)
• Stabilize patients with emergency medical conditions for delivery or transfer to higher level of care

Intrapartum Responsibilities

• Labor assessment, evaluation, and care
• Fetal evaluation and assessment
• Prepare expectant mothers for safe delivery
• Administer medications including Pitocin, misoprostol, methergine, hemabate, magnesium sulfate, terbutaline, labetalol, nifedipine, hydralazine, insulin
• Immediate stabilization of newborns and administration of newborn medications
• Prepare for scheduled or emergency cesarean deliveries

Postpartum/Newborn Responsibilities

• Assess and care for postpartum patients (vaginal and cesarean deliveries) and newborns
• Newborn care including hearing screens, lab draws, IV starts and care, medication administration (Hep B, Vitamin K, erythromycin, antibiotics), assistance with circumcisions
• Care for opiate withdrawal newborns, stabilization of critically ill newborns for transport, phototherapy, and hypoglycemia care

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 2 years of current nursing experience

Education Requirements

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Nursing license in the State of New Mexico or a Compact State
• BLS certification (American Heart Association, American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
• AWHONN Intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring certification
• Must pass BCA testing during the first week of assignment (failure results in dismissal)

Preferred Skills & Experience

• EPIC electronic health record experience (training available on-site)

This position is ideal for experienced labor and delivery nurses comfortable with a variety of obstetric and newborn care responsibilities in a dynamic clinical setting.
