Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Akron, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Position is a travel/contract Registered Nurse role.
  • Assignment is with a major healthcare system in Ohio.

Required Documentation & Compliance

Identification

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried during assignment.
  • Driver’s License required for OR Tech First Assistants (CSFA) and RNFAs.

Background Checks

  • Comprehensive background check required prior to start, including:
    • FCRA compliant 7-year search (SSN Trace, Counties, States, Nationwide, National Sex Offender, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, Education Verification).
    • Must be updated annually and after breaks in service of 2+ months.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start, updated annually. Fingerprints must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing.
  • Facility will conduct their own fingerprinting in addition to agency process.
  • Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.

Education Verification

  • Required for all candidates.
  • International education verifications require CGFNS documentation as placeholder if third-party verification is delayed.

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable. Required for all candidates.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable. Required for many specialty areas including ICU, Med/Surg, Oncology, Pediatrics, etc. Not required for CVOR, OR, Pediatric OR, Ambulatory Care, Behavioral Health.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable. Required for PICU, Pediatric Stepdown, Pediatric OR. Preferred but not required for PACU.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): AAP/AHA only. Required for Labor & Delivery, OB/GYN, NICU.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for ER; preferred for other areas.
  • CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room): Preferred but not required for RNFAs.
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for multiple critical care and neuro units; preferred but not required for some pediatric units.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually.
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing: Required for all nursing positions except OR.
  • State License Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start for new and extension contracts. License must be current.
  • NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start for RN, LPN/LVN, AP.

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required as applicable.
  • Pass/Fail EKG and Medication testing required for bedside RNs (except OR), completed onsite during orientation. Retakes available after 1 week if needed.
  • Core Parts I, II, and III training required annually (specific to facility).

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge required for OR Tech First Assistants (CSFA) and RNFAs (headshot, shoulders up, white background).
  • Resume/CV with 10 years of work history required for CSFAs and RNFAs, including explanations for gaps longer than one month.
  • Completion of online onboarding and training modules prior to start is mandatory. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome and cannot be skipped.
  • SafeMedicate preparation materials provided for review before pass/fail testing during orientation.
  • CSFA and RNFA candidates must sign a specific acknowledgement prior to start.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, including assessment of ability to perform job functions safely. Snellen eye exam included for exams dated after 4/11/2025.
  • Fit Mask Testing: Required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Must use approved N95 masks. PAPRs approved on a case-by-case basis.
  • Immunizations:
    • Tdap vaccine every 10 years (religious/medical exemptions reviewed case-by-case; declinations not accepted).
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually. Chest X-Ray required if history of positive TB.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; booster if titers negative/equivocal. Exemptions reviewed case-by-case; declinations not accepted.
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination required.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; booster if titers negative/equivocal. Exemptions reviewed case-by-case; declinations not accepted.
  • Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31) or approved medical/religious exemption. Declinations not accepted.
  • Eye Exam: Required within 1 year of start for new candidates signing after 4/11/2025. Not required for return candidates with less than 40-day gap between assignments.

Employment History & References

  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area.
  • For OR Tech First Assistants (CSFA) and RNFAs, 10 years prior work history required.
  • References:
    • 2 references required from employment within 1 year of start (Manager, ANM, Supervisor, Charge Nurse, or Director). Co-worker references not accepted.
    • For OR Tech First Assistants (CSFA) and RNFAs, 4 references required: 3 peer-level and 1 supervisor/physician within 2 years of start.

State-Specific Requirements (Ohio)

  • BCI and FBI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Fingerprints must be completed under nursing code 4723.09.
  • Candidates must complete fingerprint attestation form.
  • Candidates must also complete fingerprinting at the facility.

This position requires strict adherence to all credentialing, certification, health, and compliance requirements prior to and during the assignment. Candidates should be prepared for comprehensive onboarding and documentation processes.
