Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Akron, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Key Requirements and Information
Licensure & Certifications
- State License Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start for new and extension contracts. Licenses expiring within 30 days of start must be renewed prior to start.
- NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start for RN, LPN/LVN, AP.
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA only (Instructor or Provider) or RQI acceptable. Required for all candidates. Must be current within 30 days of start.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA only (Instructor or Provider) or RQI acceptable. Required for many units including ICU, Med/Surg, Dialysis, Oncology, etc. Not required for CVOR, OR, Pediatric OR, Ambulatory Care, Behavioral Health. Must be current within 30 days of start.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): AHA only (Instructor or Provider) or RQI acceptable. Required for PICU, Pediatric Stepdown, Pediatric OR. Preferred but not required for PACU. Must be current within 30 days of start.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): AAP/AHA only. Required for Labor & Delivery, OB/GYN, NICU. Must be current within 30 days of start.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for Emergency Room (ER). Preferred but not required for other units.
- CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room): Preferred but not required for RNFAs.
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for many critical care and neuro units. Must be updated annually.
- Tech Certifications: CVOR and NBSTSA certifications required for relevant roles.
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually.
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing: Required for all nursing positions except OR. Not required for legacy candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts.
Background Checks & Compliance
- Background Check: Required prior to start; must include FCRA compliant 7-year search (SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide, sex offender, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, education verification). Updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM Checks: Required monthly.
- HHS/OIG Checks: Required monthly.
- Fingerprinting: Must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract. FBI and BCI fingerprint results required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Fingerprints done under code 4723.09 (Nursing). Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite. Candidates may start with results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, including assessment of ability to perform essential job functions. Snellen eye exam required for exams signed after 4/11/2025.
- Fit Mask: Required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Must use 3M N95 1860 or 1870 models. PAPRs approved case-by-case.
- Immunizations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) or chest X-ray if history of positive TB, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if titers negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination documented
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if titers negative/equivocal
- Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
- Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31) or approved medical/religious exemption. Declinations not accepted.
Documentation & Onboarding
- Driver’s License/State ID: Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment. Required for OR Tech First Assistants (CSFA) and RNFAs.
- Employment Application: Must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area. For CSFA and RNFA, 10 years prior work history required.
- References:
- 2 references required from employment within 1 year of start (Manager, Supervisor, Charge Nurse, or Director).
- For CSFA and RNFA, 4 references required (3 peer-level and 1 supervisor/physician within 2 years).
- Skills Checklist: Required annually.
- Competency Exams: Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Medication/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable.
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for all bedside RNs except OR. Completed onsite during orientation. Retake available after 1 week if failed. Not required for legacy candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts.
- Onboarding Modules: Must be completed prior to clearance to start. Modules include online training and SafeMedicate prep materials. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; videos cannot be skipped.
Additional Notes
- Candidates with gaps in employment longer than 40 days may need to update physical exam, chest X-ray, and eye exam.
- Candidates must notify facility of latex allergies for accommodation.
- Fingerprinting and background checks must be current and compliant with facility and state requirements.
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and training requirements prior to start.
This position is a travel/contract role at a major healthcare system in Ohio, requiring compliance with extensive credentialing, health, and onboarding standards to ensure patient safety and regulatory adherence.
