Position Details
- Role: Adult RRT at Ashley River Tower
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: Possible floating to Main Hospital adult population only, with same policies and equipment
- Block Schedule: May be accommodated with prior approval (not guaranteed)
- Radius Rule: 60 miles
- Locals: Considered on a case-by-case basis
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of critical care experience as an RRT (first-timers not accepted)
- Required Certifications/Licenses:
- NBRC RRT certification
- South Carolina Respiratory Care Provider (SC RCP) license (must have at start)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Radiation Badge: Not required
- Pending State License: Not accepted; SC RRT license must be active at start
Patient Population & Unit Highlights
- Facility Type: Teaching Hospital, Magnet status, Level 1 Trauma Center
- Total Staffed Beds: 865
- Charting System: Epic
- Scrub Color: Caribbean Blue
- Parking: Paid parking for nights and weekends (one-time $20 pass)
- Ashley River Tower Beds: ~200 beds including:
- 2 ICUs (Cardiovascular ICU with 21 beds, Medical-Surgical ICU with 18 beds)
- 2 step-down floors
- 4 general acute care floors
- 21-bed Emergency Department
- Patient Types:
- Postoperative cardiac, thoracic, and complex vascular surgery patients
- Heart & lung transplant, durable LVAD patients
- Temporary mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, IABP, Impella)
- Complex cardiology patients (post cardiac arrest, AMI, decompensated heart failure)
- Medical-surgical ICU patients with ARDS, septic shock, hematologic and oncologic emergencies, GI hemorrhage, pulmonary hypertension, perforated viscous
Work Conditions & Policies
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time (peak in August and September)
- COVID-19: COVID vaccines highly preferred but not required; vaccination records must be uploaded or a declination form completed
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9 attestation and form)
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID
- Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Background checks including:
- 7-year history with multiple searches (SSN trace, state, national, sex offender registry, FACIS)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification (diploma/transcripts as placeholder if needed)
- Clinical references (2 required)
- Employment history verification (last 3 clinical employers)
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable
- Color blindness test prior to start
- Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions (must be completed before orientation)
- Clear, passport-style badge photo required before start
- Physical exam updated annually attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccination with boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug-April) or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
- Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Respiratory safety clearance and fit testing required annually
Additional Notes
- All certifications must be current and not expiring within 30 days of start
- Education and licensure verifications must be primary source verified and active/unencumbered
- Travelers must comply with facility-specific safety and orientation requirements
- Sterile Processing Techs have additional physical and lab requirements (not applicable for this RRT role)
This position is ideal for experienced adult critical care RRTs with required certifications and South Carolina licensure, seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity teaching hospital environment with advanced cardiopulmonary patient care.
