Respiratory Therapist Opportunity - Rapid City, South Dakota
Facility Overview
- Beds: 260-280; Daily census: 250-260
- Busy, fast-paced respiratory care department
- Patient types include Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal Critical Care as well as general inpatient respiratory care
- Must be prepared to care for NICU patients if required (NRP certification needed)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience preferred
- Candidates with 1 year of experience may be considered
- First-time travelers considered upon manager review with strong experience
Required Certifications and Licenses
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required; CRT may be considered based on experience
- South Dakota Respiratory Care Practitioner License (takes ~30 days to obtain prior to start)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
Education
- Associate’s Degree (AA) required
Skills
- Critical Care and general respiratory care experience required
Support and Supervision
- 24/7 support from Charge RT and Respiratory Clinical Specialist
- Supervisors, Manager, and Director available for support
Charting and Equipment
- Charting system: EPIC (required), Omnicell
- Equipment includes:
- Ventilators: Draeger V500, Savina 300, 3100A Oscillator, Servo-I MRI, Hamilton C1
- ResMed APAP, CPAP, Bi-level devices
- Airvo2 High flow devices, Cough Assist, Incourage vest, ABL90 Blood gas machines, IPV, Praxair iNO
Floating and Coverage
- Respiratory Therapist coverage throughout hospital and Emergency Department
- No floating to other facilities unless specifically hired for that
Orientation
- Orientation provided at Rapid City Hospital Respiratory Care Department
Scheduling
- Rotating 12-hour or 6-hour shifts
- Weekend rotation: every other weekend
- On-call schedules vary by facility and job requisition:
- Home Health Call every other week (business hours 0800-1730; call hours 1730-0800 and weekends/holidays)
- Spearfish facility call: 1am-6am, 3 days per week
- Call at other facilities generally only for planned events or specific needs
- Holiday work expected during contract period
- Time off approval: up to 7 days; must extend contract if taking a full week off
- No return to office (RTO) during Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
