Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Oxford, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Position: ICU Registered Nurse
  • Unit: 27-bed combined medical and surgical unit (general surgery, orthopedics, CHF, diabetes, sepsis, general illness)
  • Patient-to-nurse ratio: Typically 5 patients per nurse
  • Support staff: Usually 3 aides and a unit secretary
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduling model, every other weekend, 4-week schedule cycle
  • Orientation: Typically 3 shifts (1 general hospital orientation + 2 unit-specific shifts)
  • EMR System: MEDITECH (experience preferred but not required)
  • Float Policy: Occasional floating to ICU or overflow units as needed

Requirements

  • Licensure: Current RN license in North Carolina
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (AHA preferred) - Required prior to start and must be current
    • ACLS (AHA preferred) - Required prior to start and must be current
  • Skills: IV start required
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
    • Prior travel experience preferred (not strictly required)

Patient Population

  • General surgery
  • Orthopedics
  • Congestive heart failure (CHF)
  • Diabetes
  • Sepsis
  • General medical illnesses

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check: 7-year criminal history, education verification, and other standard screenings
  • Health documents:
    • Physical exam (initial and annual)
    • Immunizations and titers (MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap, TB test) or acceptable declinations
    • Drug screening (9-panel, within last 12 months)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Competency exams and orientation safety acknowledgments required

Additional Notes

  • Some weekend and holiday shifts required
  • Facility offers online training modules through a learning management system
  • Must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service
  • Facility-specific exemption forms required for flu vaccine religious or medical exemptions
