Job Opportunity: Pediatric Echo Tech (Radiology / Cardiology)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Pediatric Echo Tech
• Daily Caseload: 4-10 patients per tech
• Shift: Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts
• Shift Start Times: Between 6:30 AM and 8:00 AM (staggered shifts)
• No weekend, holiday, or on-call requirements
• Floating between hospital and North Charleston clinic

Experience & Certification Requirements

• Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years (highest required)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required
• First-time travelers accepted
• Pending State License accepted, but must have:

  • Registered Pediatric Sonographer (ARDMS) with PE certification or
  • CCI with RCCS certification
  • All certifications must be in hand at start
• Proficiency required in:

  • Scanning pediatric echocardiograms
  • Complex congenital heart defects
  • Experience with GE Vivid 95 and PACS system preferred
• BLS certification required
• Radiation badge not required for this position

Schedule & Work Conditions

• Floating required between two locations
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
• Open to block scheduling at manager’s discretion
• Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis

Licensure & Background Checks

• South Carolina state license or compact license required
• Primary source verification of license required
• Annual background check covering 7 years of residence/work history
• Required background screenings include:

  • SSN Trace
  • Statewide and national criminal checks
  • Sex offender registry
  • FACIS 3
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• Education verification required; diploma/transcripts accepted as placeholders if needed

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - required for all pediatric units
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - not required for pediatric units (only required for adult critical care and certain other units)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA/AAP certification required
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - not required for ER RNs
• Other certifications as applicable based on unit requirements

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam: Initial and annual updates required
• Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
• Immunizations and titers required or proof of immunity for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination form)
• TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start; annual TB questionnaire required
• 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated

Competency & Other Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
• Color blindness testing required prior to start
• Competency exam required; pediatric OR competency preferred but regular OR competency accepted if no pediatric experience
• Proof of 2 clinical references required
• Employment application with complete work history and no unaccounted gaps required
• Clear, passport-style photo for badge required before start

Additional Notes

• Travelers should be aware of potential hurricane season emergency assignments (June-November, peak in August-September)
• Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed prior to start
• Facility may require uploading vaccination and health documentation into their system prior to start

This position offers a structured weekday schedule with no weekends or holidays, suitable for pediatric echo techs with at least 2 years of experience and appropriate pediatric sonography certifications. Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are welcome.
