Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU/Stepdown, Neuroscience Unit)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Unit: 9E PCU Neuroscience Main Hospital
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:3 to 1:4 (based on acuity)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: 4-5 weekend shifts in a 4-week period as needed
  • On-call: No call requirements
  • Floating: Clinician may float within scope to meet facility needs

Experience & Licensure Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 1 year PCU/Stepdown experience required
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required
  • Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license required
  • First-time travelers accepted

Certifications Required

  • BLS (American Heart Association only)
  • ACLS (American Heart Association only)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER and applicable units)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS for pediatric units, TNCC for trauma units)

Scheduling & Attendance

  • Block scheduling may be accommodated with manager approval
  • Locals within 60 miles may be accepted on a case-by-case basis
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Travelers must adhere to the same attendance policies as permanent staff
  • Weekend callouts require makeup shifts within 7-10 days
  • Holiday callouts require a doctor’s note

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of work eligibility (I-9 form)
  • Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
  • Social Security Card or SSN verification
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year work/living history
    • SSN Trace
    • Statewide and national criminal checks
    • Sex offender registry
    • FACIS 3 and international searches if applicable
  • Education verification (diploma/transcripts)
  • NURSYS license verification (active, unencumbered)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Physical exam: Initial and updated annually
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days of start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
    • Varicella (positive titer or vaccination)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Annual flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption (flu season August-April)
  • TB test: T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days of start, or chest x-ray if positive history
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Competency exams as applicable (medication, pharmacology, OR competency)
  • Color blindness testing prior to start

Orientation & Facility Specifics

  • Completion of orientation modules (approx. 2 hours) prior to start is mandatory
  • Clear, passport-style photo required for badge (frontal view, business casual attire)
  • COVID and flu vaccine documentation must be uploaded into facility system
  • Attendance to orientation required; failure to complete modules may result in being sent home

Additional Notes

  • During hurricane season (June-November), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams
  • Radiation badges required for certain specialties (not applicable for this RN position unless specified)
  • Locals may be accepted but with specific rate considerations
