Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MICU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Registered Nurse
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 AM - 7 PM), with holiday rotation
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Yes, must float within scope to like units/sister facilities as needed

Experience & Licensure Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years preferred (1 year minimum)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Required (first-time travelers not accepted)
  • Licenses: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be active prior to start
  • Certifications Required:
    • ACLS (AHA or ARC only)
    • BLS (AHA or ARC only)
    • NIH Stroke Certification

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Block Scheduling: Approval can be requested but not guaranteed
  • Local Radius: 60 miles (local travelers not accepted)

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Includes SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Not required for this facility
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; SC RN license processing times vary (3-5 weeks for permanent, 24-48 hours for temp walk-through process)
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance Evaluation: Must be dated within 12 months of start
  • Work History Verification: Not required for this facility

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual updates required, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations & Titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
  • COVID-19: Vaccines highly preferred but not required; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for patient-facing staff via RespSafety questionnaire

Certifications & Competencies

  • Additional Certifications (as applicable):
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
    • IV Therapy Certification (for select LPNs)
  • Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology and other competency exams as required

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Orientation: Completion of OurDay modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo required
  • Acknowledgments & Agreements: Must sign assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual review, systems user agreement, and user access request prior to start
  • Job Description: Required for all candidates
  • Religious Exemption: COVID exemption form available for religious reasons

Additional Notes

  • Floating to other units is expected as per facility needs
  • No local travelers accepted for this assignment
  • Facility may call off shifts occasionally; guaranteed hours are not absolute
  • Candidates must have prior travel experience; first-time travelers will not be considered

This position is ideal for experienced MICU RNs with prior travel assignments who hold the necessary South Carolina licensure and certifications, and who are comfortable working in a fast-paced acute care environment with floating responsibilities.
