L&D Nurse Travel Assignment - Chandler, Arizona

Job Details

  • Specialty: Labor & Delivery (L&D)
  • Location: Chandler, Arizona
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Nights (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
  • Unit: Labor and Delivery
    • 18 LDRP beds
    • 14 OB triage beds
    • 8 Antepartum beds
  • Average Deliveries: 8-10 per day (approx. 322-344 per month)
  • OR Suites for C-sections: 2 fully equipped ORs

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years in L&D nursing
  • Required Certifications:
    • Active BLS
    • ACLS
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • Arizona license or compact license
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Experience with C-sections (must confidently circulate and recover C-sections)
    • Computer charting experience, preferably Cerner EMR
    • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam (80% passing score, max 2 attempts) prior to starting
    • Pass/fail Simulation lab on day 1 of orientation
    • COVID vaccine required or approved declination form with hospital approval

Patient Care & Staffing

  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Mostly 2:1 depending on acuity
    • Antepartum can be 4:1
    • C-sections 1:1
  • Staffing:
    • 13 charge nurses on unit
    • No nurse aides
  • Floating: May float to Mother-Baby/Postpartum or sister facility as needed

Clinical Environment & Support

  • EMR System: Cerner
  • EFM System: Fetal Link
  • Level of Care: Level II NICU (gestations 28 weeks and greater), Level 1 Trauma Center
  • Common Patient Types: Laboring or preterm pregnant patients
  • Clinical Responsibilities:
    • Titrate Pitocin and Magnesium Sulfate per protocol
    • Circulate and recover C-sections confidently
  • Support Services:
    • OB Hospitalist in-house 24/7
    • Anesthesia in-house 24/7
    • Respiratory Therapy 24/7 (including vents, CPAP, BiPAP)
    • IV Team available if needed
    • Pharmacy available 24/7

Work Schedule & Other Details

  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per schedule
  • Call/Standby: Voluntary, not required
  • Holidays: Coverage appreciated if needed
  • Scrub Color: Blue
  • Telemetry: No
  • Ventilator Patients: No
  • Orientation: 1 week floor-specific orientation

This position is ideal for an experienced L&D nurse comfortable with C-sections, computer charting (Cerner preferred), and working in a busy Level II NICU and Level 1 Trauma Center environment.
