ICU Nurse Travel Opportunity - Sacramento, California

Position Details

  • Specialty: ICU (Intensive Care Unit)
  • Location: Sacramento, California
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Unit: ICU, 12 beds
  • Shift: 12-hour shifts (07:00 to 19:30), report at bedside
  • Schedule: Self-scheduling with manager final approval; schedules released 4 weeks in advance; block scheduling generally not available
  • Weekend Requirement: Minimum 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week period
  • Holidays: Rotate with core staff
  • Floating: Possible mid-shift float to other Sacramento facilities (rare)
  • Orientation: 1-2 days floor-specific orientation with preceptor

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Active California nursing license
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years ICU nursing experience (highest required)
  • Prior travel experience not explicitly required

Patient Care & Environment

  • Patient Types: Medical/Surgical ICU patients including Non-STEMIs, CVA, multi-organ failure, sepsis, respiratory failure, post-op complications, comfort care patients
  • Common Procedures: TEEs (Transesophageal Echocardiograms), bronchoscopies at bedside
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:2 (1:1 assignments are infrequent)
  • Telemetry: Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
  • Ventilator Care: Yes
  • Charge Nurse Role: Yes, generally does not take patients but provides break relief
  • Nurse Aides: Not available
  • Multidisciplinary rounds conducted on day shifts

  • Hospitalist or Intensivist available in-house
  • Respiratory Therapy available 24/7

  • Scrub Color: Navy (under shirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets optional but must be navy)
  • Overtime and extra shifts available
  • Travelers can access schedules remotely and make themselves available for extra shifts or trades
  • Dyslexia exam (basic) required prior to acceptance; must be completed within 24-48 hours with up to 2 attempts allowed
  • Two supervisor references required (one within last 12 months, one within last 3 years)
