Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Electronic Medical Record System: EPIC (required)
  • Float Requirements: Must float to all Medical-Surgical (MS) and MS/Telemetry units within the hospital; possible float to sister campus (~3 miles away)
  • Ratio / Census: 1:5-6
  • Schedule: Every other weekend (approximately 6 weekends in a 13-week contract)
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
  • Holiday Work: Expected to work major holidays if they fall during the assignment (up to 2 holidays if 3 fall within the contract)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 1 year (1st time travelers accepted)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for certain specialties; check if applicable
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required if working in PACU/Pre-op/Endo/CSU (if pediatric patients accepted), ER
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required if applicable
  • Other Certifications: May be required depending on specialty area (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification, EFM)

Compliance & Orientation

  • Full compliance required to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedules
  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8 weeks)

Required Competencies & Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for RNs and LVNs by agency)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
  • Competency Exam (required for Nursing and Allied by agency)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Tele, MS/Tele, IMCU, ER, Cardiac Tele/Step-down, ICU, PCU) – 3 attempts allowed

Health & Background Requirements

  • Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days prior to start, including education verification
  • Physical Exam: Required by agency within 1 year of start
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; instant drug screen acceptable under certain conditions
  • TB Testing: PPD, QGold, or TSpot within 12 months; negative chest x-ray required if prior positive test
  • Vaccinations:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer required
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer required
    • Hepatitis B – Series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Flu Vaccine or Declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
  • TB Questionnaire: Required annually for all candidates

Additional Requirements

  • Skills Checklist updated within 12 months
  • Work history verification of most recent employer (can be pending at start with proof running)
  • Two clinical references required by agency (not required by client)
  • Must review and sign facility-specific policies such as Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance

Work Environment & Other Notes

  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Unit systems include Epic, Pyxis, SBAR
  • Floating to multiple units required
  • Locals accepted at same rate
  • No call requirements

This position is suitable for Registered Nurses with at least 1 year of experience in adult to geriatric care, comfortable with floating across medical-surgical and telemetry units, and proficient in EPIC EMR. Prior travel experience is not required.
