Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse

Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Description

  • Work schedule: 8-hour day shifts (9am-6pm), with 2 days per month (1st and 3rd Thursdays) from 8am-5pm for staff meetings
  • Ability to float to other facilities within the system
  • Patient populations: Pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics

Required Qualifications

  • California RN License
  • AHA BLS Certification
  • Minimum 3 years clinical nursing experience
  • Minimum 2 years experience in ambulatory specialty or outpatient ophthalmology setting
  • Competent in starting IVs
  • Comfortable with electronic medication refills and prior authorizations
  • Experience with phone triage of acute symptoms
  • Comfortable assisting during urgent/emergent events and minor in-office procedures

Preferred Experience

  • 2 years pediatric experience
  • Emergency Department (ED) or Medical/Surgical experience
  • Experience in ophthalmologic setting

Certifications & Competencies Required

  • ACLS (AHA certified, no exceptions) for applicable units
  • BLS (AHA certified, no exceptions)
  • PALS (AHA certified) for pediatric units
  • NRP for L&D and pediatric critical care
  • CHEMO certification for oncology roles
  • TNCC may be required for ED
  • EFM for L&D (AWHONN accepted)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) for psychiatric positions
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score ≥ 80%)
  • Unit-specific Competency Exam (passing score ≥ 80%)
  • Core Parts I, II, and III competency exams (passing score ≥ 80%)
  • Pass/Fail Telemetry and Medication exams on first day of orientation (required for all RNs in specified units)
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) may be required for ED
  • NIH Stroke Certification for ED RNs
  • State License Verification and NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start

Required Documentation & Background Checks

  • Valid Driver’s License or government photo ID matching professional license
  • 7-year criminal background check including specific counties and nationwide checks
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript
  • Sex offender search for extensions with assignment gaps over 30 days
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start including fitness to work statement
  • Drug testing (standard 9 panel excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types required)
  • Immunizations and titers: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years), Negative TB tests (2 required), Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Flu seasonal vaccination or facility-specific declination required annually
  • COVID-19 vaccination requirements including booster doses or approved exemptions
  • Annual TB questionnaire within 30 days of start
  • Emergency contact information

Additional Requirements

  • Two supervisory references from most recent or second most recent employment
  • Current and updated resume with last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30+ days must be explained
  • Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
  • Work history verification for 7 years (non-clinical roles may have different requirements)
  • Completion of facility-specific learning modules and orientation requirements
  • Compliance with facility-specific policies including COVID-19 preparedness, HIPAA, cybersecurity, and vaccination exemptions

Work Environment

  • Ambulatory specialty setting with some outpatient ophthalmology
  • Exposure to urgent/emergent events and minor procedures
  • Floating to other facilities may be required
  • Diverse patient population including pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with ambulatory or outpatient ophthalmology experience who are comfortable with a variety of clinical tasks and working in a dynamic healthcare environment.
