Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Mayfield Heights, Ohio
Contract Length: 7 weeks
Job Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years of clinical practice in an acute care setting and in a similar area to the pending assignment (based on employment application requirements).
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required.
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all candidates.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for most clinical areas including Med/Surg, ICU, ER, etc.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for PICU, Pediatric Stepdown, ER, Pediatric OR; preferred but not required for PACU.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for Labor & Delivery, OB/GYN, and NICU.
- State Nursing License: Primary source verification within 30 days of start; must be current and renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start.
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually.
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing: Required for all nursing positions except OR; not required for legacy candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts.
- NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred for certain units; must be updated annually.
- Tech Cert Verification (National): Required for CVOR and NBSTSA certifications where applicable.
- CHEMO Certification: Not required for Oncology.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Preferred but not required for ER.
Background and Compliance Checks
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
- Background check required prior to start and must be updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually; must be completed under nursing-specific code. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- Education verification required for all candidates.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later). Must confirm ability to safely perform job functions.
- Fit Mask: Required within 12 months of start and updated annually (3M N95 masks). PAPRs approved case-by-case.
- Immunizations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray (annual)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titers with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31)
- Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
- Eye Exam: Required within 1 year of start for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later.
Orientation and Competency
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start is mandatory. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome and cannot be skipped.
- Pass/Fail EKG and Medication testing required onsite during orientation for bedside RNs (except OR).
- Unit-specific competency exams required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable.
Employment History and References
- Application must include 3 years of prior work history, including at least 2 years of clinical practice in an acute care setting relevant to the assignment.
- Two professional references required from employment within one year of start, from a manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director (co-worker references not accepted).
Additional Notes
- Candidates may start with fingerprinting results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
- Candidates returning to the facility with less than a 6-month gap may have some requirements waived (e.g., pass/fail testing, eye exam).
- All certifications expiring within 30 days of start must be renewed prior to start.
- Religious and medical exemptions for vaccines are reviewed on a case-by-case basis; declinations are not accepted.
- Facility requires latex allergy notification to ensure availability of latex-free gloves.
This position is a travel/contract role requiring compliance with extensive credentialing, health, and competency standards to ensure patient safety and regulatory adherence.
