Labor & Delivery RN Travel Assignment

Location: Redwood City, California
Specialty: Labor & Delivery
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Requirements

Minimum 2+ years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience
Active California RN license
Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Advanced AWHONN
Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Job Details

Patient Ratios: Per ACOG and California guidelines; typically 1:3 or 1:4 couplets
EMR System: Cerner PowerChart Maternity and Cerner Fetal Links for FHM
Charge Nurse duties included (triage patients)
Nurse aides: OB techs function as aides when no cases
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Fri/Sat night, Sat/Sun day shifts)
Holiday Coverage: Rotate with staff (one of every 3 major holidays)
Shift Start Times: 7 AM and 7 PM
Floating: To Postpartum in rotation with permanent staff
Orientation: Floor-specific, 3 shifts (2 L&D, 1 Mother-Baby)

Unit & Patient Population

Level 2 NICU on site staffed by Stanford nurses (32 weeks gestation and above)
Occasionally care for GYN clean patient overflow
LDRP rooms are new; Postpartum rooms are older
Lactation nurses available during the day who write lactation care plans
Infant security system: "Hugs and Kisses" system in use (not a locked unit)
Patient population: Higher socioeconomic status, median maternal age ~37
Higher volume of Mandarin-speaking patients; translation services available via Vocera phones

Additional Information

Anesthesia available 24/7 (usually in-house or within 20 minutes)
Private OB/GYN physicians available after hours and weekends; weekdays they are in private practice
Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
Pharmacy hours: 7 AM to 10:30 PM, then satellite pharmacy
Call: Optional; if low census, may be placed on call for 4-hour increments during shift and must be within 20 minutes of hospital; sleep room available onsite
Scrub color provided: Ceil blue
