OR RN Travel Opportunity - Bakersfield, California

Position Overview

Role: OR RN (Operating Room Registered Nurse)
Location: Bakersfield, CA
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Employment Type: Travel contract

Experience & Certifications

Minimum 3 years of OR nursing experience in an acute care setting (not just surgery center)
Required to have experience in all listed common cases and robotics
Certifications required: Active BLS, ACLS, and California RN license
Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Clinical Details

Average cases per day: 8-30
Common cases include:
- Orthopedics: total joints (knees, hips, shoulders), knee and shoulder scopes, TSAs
- Urology: cystoscopies, ESWLs, TURPs, penile prosthesis, orchiectomies, open prostates (not required)
- Gynecology: hysterectomies, D&C, slings, robotic hysterectomies, GYN oncology, salpingo-oophorectomy
- Neurosurgery: ortho spine, brain tumors, craniotomies, subdural hematomas, transsphenoidal tumors, VP shunts
- Hands, podiatry, DaVinci robotic cases
- Vascular: AV fistulas, thrombectomies, carotids, endarterectomies, femoral-popliteal open surgeries
- General surgery: open, laparoscopic, robotic
- ENT: tonsils, adenoids, pediatric ENT
- Bariatrics and ophthalmology cases (not a deal breaker)

Work Environment & Scheduling

Number of OR suites: 5
EMR system: Cerner Surginet
Shifts: Day shifts available in 8, 10, or 12-hour blocks starting around 7 AM (may vary)
Call requirements:
- On-call 1 night per week (7:30 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Weekend call: 2 weekend days per month (24 hours Sat and Sun)
- Holiday call: 1 major and 1 minor holiday per year
- Call response time: 30 minutes
Forced call is rare and based on a rotation list
Floating: May be floated to a nearby facility (~6.5 miles away)
Charge nurse/house supervisor present weekdays
OR techs available to assist
Scrubbing: Preferred but not required for RNs
Dress code: Scrub color provided

Orientation & Additional Notes

Unit-specific orientation: Up to 2 days
Must live or stay within 30 minutes of the facility due to call requirements
Facility currently undergoing construction with potential noise; estimated completion in 2027
Typical schedule example: Monday-Friday, 11 AM - 7:30 PM with call every other week
