Job Opportunity: RN Step Down

Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Job Description

• Work schedule: Every Other Week (EOW) and Every Other Holiday (EOH)
• Requires 2 years of experience in PCU (Progressive Care Unit) / Med-Surg Telemetry Acute Care
• Placement on unit with greatest need: PCU, Med/Surg, or Telemetry unit based on skills
• Accepts RNs with Med/Surg or Stepdown experience (same credentialing for both)
• Must be willing to float onsite within skill set or to sites within 40 miles if needed
• Start date must be by 1/31/26 to receive elevated rate

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of PCU / Med-Surg Telemetry Acute Care experience
• No explicit prior travel experience required

Required Credentials & Certifications

• Nursing License: Current, with Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
• BLS (AHA certified)
• ACLS (AHA certified)
• Driver’s License/State ID: Valid, not expired, matching address requirements
• Professional References: At least two professional references prior to first assignment

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

• Signed Assignment Agreement (required before onboarding)
• Resume/Profile submission required
• Background checks including criminal background, employment verification, EPLS, and others as per policy
• Completion of Ascension-specific onboarding requirements including:

  • Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA topics) with minimum 80% score
  • Epic Test-Out and Training Checklist with signed attestation
  • Skills Checklist updated annually
  • Various Ascension pre-hire modules and attestations
• Health and Immunization Requirements:

  • MMR: Proof of two vaccines or positive titer (no declinations accepted)
  • Varicella: Proof of immunity or two vaccines (no declinations accepted)
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
  • Influenza Vaccine: Required for flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement
  • Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Fit Test: Required annually, preferred before start
  • TB Testing: 2-step PPD or IGRA with annual questionnaire; positive results require chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Health Statement or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • 12 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually

Additional Notes

• Traveler must complete all required documentation and testing prior to or at onboarding as specified
• Floating to other units or nearby sites may be required based on staffing needs
• Must be prepared to comply with all Ascension Health policies and procedures during assignment
