Neuro Tele - 5NNB Nurse Opportunity
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Unit: Neuro Tele (5NNB and 7NNB)
Unit Size: 32 beds
Hospital Type: Level 1 Trauma, Teaching Hospital
EMR System: Cerner (required)
Shift: 12-hour shifts, 7am to 7pm
Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts every 8 weeks
Holidays: Worked into permanent holiday rotation
Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:4
Charge Nurse: Yes, with light patient assignment
Nurse Aides: Day shift - 4 aides; Night shift - 3 aides (assist with BS, VS, straight cath)
Tele Monitoring: Central monitoring; must be able to interpret EKG
Ventilators: No ventilators on unit
Support Services:
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
- Pharmacy available 24/7 (central)
- IV Team (SWAT RN) available for difficult IV sticks
Floating: Float to telemetry units and telemetry overflow in ICU
Orientation: 2 days floor-specific orientation
Common Patient Diagnoses: - Tracheostomy patients
- Cerebrovascular accident (CVA)
- Traumatic brain injury (TBI)
- Spinal surgery
- Encephalopathy
- End-stage renal disease (ESRD)
- Psychiatric issues
- Brain tumors
Clinical Skills Required: - Ability to titrate drips including Heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, and Insulin
- Competency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab pass/fail on Day 1)
- Maintaining sterile field during procedures
Certifications Required: - BLS
- ACLS
Experience Required: - Minimum 2 years of core nursing experience in specialty (Neuro experience highly preferred)
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Prior travel experience required for Neuro ICU or ED
Contract Length: Minimum 13 weeks (no contracts shorter than 13 weeks accepted)
Additional Requirements and Notes: - Must pass Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
- No facial piercings and only natural hair colors allowed
- Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Must have own vehicle if part of a travel team
- Cannot work two contracts simultaneously within this system
- Must have been off permanent staff in the system for 12 months to be eligible for travel assignment
- Weekly orientations on Mondays (except holidays)
- Fast-paced, high turnover unit with average length of stay 4-5 days
- Bedside report expected
