Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for protecting, promoting, and optimizing health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through diagnosis, treatment, and advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN must comply with all standards of practice and professional development according to the New York State Nurse Practice Act and relevant nursing codes and policies. The role promotes a caring and healing environment focused on patient-centered care.

Job Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients.
• Serve as a primary or accountable nurse as assigned.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management.
• Administer medications safely using pharmacology knowledge.
• Share responsibility for productivity and resource utilization including staffing and time management.
• Comply with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
• Participate in Nursing Shared Governance, unit councils, improvement initiatives, and peer review.
• Engage in professional development and complete mandatory education.
• Integrate nursing research and evidence-based practice.
• Provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Required Experience

• Minimum 5 years of direct nursing experience (this is the higher requirement over other listed ranges).
• Nursing (RN) experience between 6 months and 3 years.
• Management experience between 0 and 3 years.
• Skills in collaboration, communication (verbal & written), judgment/critical thinking, organizational understanding, planning/time management, problem solving, quality, reliability, safety, and risk management.

Education Requirements

• Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
• Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.

Certifications & Licensure

• Required: Current New York State RN License.
• Required: BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
• Unit-specific certifications as required.
• Preferred: Professional certification in a related nursing specialty.
• Preferred: Relevant skills certifications such as ACLS, PALS, TNCC as required by assigned unit.
