MedSurg 4W Nurse Position - Phoenix, Arizona

Experience Requirements

• Must have recent Med/Surg experience
• Preferred: Charge nurse experience and telemetry experience (in case of floating to other units)
• No first-time travelers accepted
• Must have Level 1 Trauma experience

Unit Details

• 22 private rooms
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5
• No telemetry on this specific unit, but telemetry skills preferred due to potential floating
• No PCTs; uses a resource RN in addition to charge RN
• Respiratory Therapist (RT) assigned to the unit; nurses are not expected to manage respiratory equipment directly
• Heparin drips titrated; no cardiac drips

Patient Population

• Post-op patients
• Sepsis
• Pneumonia
• COPD
• Diabetes
• Infection

Orientation & Training

• 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor
• SIMs Lab required for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (pass/fail)
• Additional training on lifts, restraints, and wound care provided
• Must maintain sterile field competency

Work Schedule & Requirements

• 12-hour night shifts
• 3 weekend days per pay period (Saturday/Sunday), same for travelers
• Holidays worked based on unit coverage
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating required to other med/surg/tele units; travelers float first
• ICU float nurses have a 1:3 ratio

Additional Requirements & Notes

• Travel team nurses must have their own vehicle
• Natural hair color and no facial piercings required
• Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
• Must pass a DYS exam prior to acceptance (2 attempts allowed)
• Pass/fail exam on day 1 of orientation
• Navy blue scrubs required
• New unit with ongoing development; team-oriented environment
